FHU cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Spacious pitches. Nice amount of pitches. Modern facilities. Good location for countryside walks and a short walk into the village.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike. As others have mentioned it’s on the flight path to East Midlands airport so expect planes and occasional dog barks from the nearby kennels, none of that bothered us and didn’t distract from a lovely stay.

FHU grass campsite

Liked: Location of site is perfect, within walking distance of East Leake village. Highly recommend using On Demand bus service ~ leave the car behind! Loved meeting the alpacas ~ the main reason for our stay! Facilities are immaculate and pitches are large with plenty of room between neighbours. Very friendly welcome on arrival with great information provided.

Disliked: Locality of nearby dog kennels, very noisy at times. Also, on the EMA flight path so be prepared to see lots of low flying courier and holiday jets as they take off and land!

Local attractions

Close to base, you can ride the steam-powered Great Central Railway (15 minutes' drive); amble towards East Leake and watch the trains puffing through if you only fancy a glimpse. Other local activities of note include spots such as Rushcliffe Golf Course (five minutes), Lakeside Sporting fishing lakes (15 minutes) and Prestwold (10 minutes), where you can get behind the wheel of a turbo-charged car. Visit more motorsport spots, starting with nearby Donington Park Circuit (20 minutes), or try some old-school four-legged racing at Nottingham's racecourse instead. When the heat of the action's worn off, consider taking a trip to the John Taylor & Co bell foundry, the biggest such site in the world. If campanology doesn't quite chime in with your idea of a dream break, perhaps you'll be taken by alternative heritage sites like Calke Abbey (half an hour) or Belvoir Castle (40 minutes), where the architecture and formal gardens are as good as certain to pass muster with history buffs. Rutland Water (45 minutes) is another promising destination if you're minded to get up to walks, bike rides, birdspotting or watersports in a thoroughly natural setting.
