  • Well-maintained adults-only site two miles from Retford
  • Canal walks, fishing and nature reserves all close by for days out
  • Bring-your-own beer garden and tiki bar on site; live entertainment
This is a place where you can get away from it all – even the kids – say owners Richard and Nathalie. Greenlife Motorhome Park is indeed an adults-only getaway in the Nottinghamshire countryside, welcoming those aged 30 and over to a space that’s got rural vibes and also easy access to town amenities like pubs and a supermarket (a couple of miles away in Retford). Owners Richard and Nathalie have transformed this place themselves, creating a fully sustainable site where all electricity is generated by solar power, water is provided by a private borehole and waste is biodegraded into an eco system that helps feed the trees and bushes. Please note that there are toilets but no showers. Recycling is a big feature of this site too – in fact, pretty much everything you see here, from the fences to the office/reception area, has been created from recycled materials that would otherwise have ended up in landfill. That same approach went into building the splendid beer garden and tiki bar, which is open Thursday to Sunday as a space to let your hair down – there’s entertainment here every weekend but you’ll need to bring your own drinks. As for working up a thirst for that drink, there are plenty of ways around to achieve that, including walks, fishing and cycle routes, or days out around Sheffield, Nottingham and Lincoln.

Local attractions

If you’re looking to get out for a stroll, there are plenty of places to do just that, starting with a public footpath on the edge of the site that leads over to miles of pathways through the surrounding countryside. There’s also the option of taking a waterside walk by the Chesterfield Canal, which is half a mile away and runs through to Retford, with a couple of handily placed pubs along the way. For other nature-inspired walks nearby, try Idle Valley Nature Reserve (10 minutes’ drive – or you can walk or bike there along a path) or head to the bigger spaces of Sherwood Forest (half an hour’s drive) or the National Trust’s Clumber Park (20 minutes). Fishing, meanwhile, is only about 500 metres away at Hayton Lakes. Looking a little further afield, there’s a sobering bit of the past to explore at the National Holocaust Centre and Museum (25 minutes) and a fascinating bit of prehistory at Creswell Crags (half an hour) – or aviation fans can book ahead to visit The Vulcan Experience (half an hour).

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Nothing to like

Disliked We had to pick up dog poop before we could pitch our awning - it was awful - dogs running wild - derelict caravans and cars all around, and just depressing - would never go there again
No drinking water!! £50 for 2 nights - daylight robbery

From the manager: Well you couldn't believe it how 2 faced and inaccurate you were informed that we are offgrid and you were so happy when you were here as you told us so twice never once did you raise any concerns you had with our team you used our facilities without so much as a complaint whilst here. Your review will only help us here as we really don't need the book reader complaining 2 faced types here. Thank you for never wanting to come back. Problem solved.
