  • Woodland site in historic Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire
  • Go Ape Sherwood 10 minutes’ walk; The Major Oak 10 minutes’ drive
  • Direct access to cycling trails and forest walks; bike station on site
Set on the edge of Sherwood Forest, known the world over for its links with the mythical Robin Hood and his Merry Men, Sherwood Pines Campsite is spread across 40 acres of gorgeous ancient woodland. First and foremost, it’s an excellent base for those who have big plans to explore the forest and its numerous hiking and cycling routes; there are paths directly from the pitches that guests can get straight out onto. Second? It’s within walking distance of many of the forest’s main activities, including adventure playgrounds, Go Ape Sherwood, bike hire, shady picnic spots and a schedule of open-air concerts held throughout the year. Plenty of useful amenities are available at Sherwood Pines too, including heated lockers for backpackers, a secure bike station for cyclists, a motorhome service point and a dog wash for four-legged guests. In summer, family activities take place on site. Mobile pizza and fish and chips vans visit most weekends. There is also a fresh coffee machine and a small shop in reception, handy if you need a quick caffeine boost or a snack before a big day out on the trails.

Powered grass campsite

Liked Friendly service. Cleanliness of the toilet and shower blocks. Fantastic location!
From checking in to checking out its been an amazing weekend. First time staying here and it won't be the last. Staff are super friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The facilities are great and so clean. Great shop on site too. Fantastic grounds and great walking and cycling routes. We had a wonderful day in sherwood pines on the bike ramps for our 5 year old too. Loved waking up to the birds singing. As we were leaving I nipped in to see if they still had availability for a weekend and booked it there and then. Can't wait to come back!

FHU gravel and cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Everything! Is was so lovely staying here and even though it was busier than we're used to at other sites, it was still peaceful. So many walks to burn off energy and the site was clean at all times. We loved it so much, we have rebooked for a few weeks time!
The pitch was very level and not too close to the neighbours.

Disliked Occasionally smelled the pig farm that was nearby, but not a deal breaker.

Powered gravel and cement/asphalt campsite

Liked The site was clean and the walks were quiet with our dogs . There was lots to go and do without driving anywhere ie go ape or walking trails . Spacious pitches kept clean .

Disliked We had a problem with the pitching , we were told where to go and we put our awning up and settled then 1 staff came along and told us we had to move pitch bc they had put us in the wrong one, we were devastated , we had to move in the end which ruined our day and it took us all afternoon to move and re pitch with 3 kids and 2 dogs . The problem I have is they never once during the weekend come back over to us to see if we were happy or they didn’t even compensate us in any way , a little gesture would of gone along way to making us feel like they were bothered about our feelings , so professionalism was poor .

Local attractions

Want to explore the forest on two wheels? You won’t need to fret about securing a bicycle rack to your precious car, as Sherwood Pines Cycles (10 minutes’ walk) is right within striking distance. Go Ape Sherwood (10 minutes) is also within walking distance, making it easy to go from lounging on the pitch to gliding down a zipwire and gazing through the leaf canopies. If you’d rather spend your time batting golf balls with gusto, try the Sherwood Forest Golf Club (10 minutes) instead. For one of the area’s most legendary sights, head to The Major Oak (10 minutes’ drive), an ancient tree rumoured to be connected to the legendary Robin Hood. If you still have plenty of energy to expend on some challenging activities, the Adrenalin Jungle Activity Centre (25 minutes) runs activities such as assault courses and paintballing. Finally, should you feel like pausing the activities to take in some important history, The National Holocaust Centre and Museum (20 minutes) is not too far away either.
