  • Family-run glampsite in the peaceful village of Elsham
  • A 10-minute drive from Brigg and 15 minutes from Humber Bridge
  • Fishing lakes, fishing shop, café and scenic views
Hide away in a handsome bell tent at Hunters Lodge Fishery, a spacious glampsite to the north of the Lincolnshire Wolds in the pretty village of Elsham. Attracted here by the idea of angling? Perfecto: this place is a family-run business that has four lakes for specimen carp or coarse fishing an easy five minutes’ amble from your accommodation. You’re most welcome to book a peg on the specimen lakes to cast off from during your stay – just let the Hunters Lodge team know using the contact details in your booking confirmation email. The site and lakes are in a peaceful setting with pretty views, 15 minutes’ drive from the nature reserves of Humber Bridge and within half an hour of the Lincolnshire coast at Cleethorpes and Grimsby. Days out in Lincoln and Hull are to be had too (within 50 minutes), as well as hikes along the famed Viking Way and shopping in the many nearby market towns. Grab food out at one of these spots or eat on site at the café selling breakfast, snacks, sandwiches, hot and cold drinks and homemade scones. The park has a fishing shop stocked with angling kit and bait as a handy extra, and for the essentials a shower and toilet are a few minutes’ walk away from the bell tent. (Please bring a torch as there’s no artificial light around the grounds at night.) To keep the place serene, cars must be parked in the designated parking area five minutes’ walk from the accommodation. The team will lend a hand at the start and end of your stay to transfer all your kit.

Local attractions

If you’ve got a bit of time to kill in between fishing, there’s plenty in the surrounds of this site to keep you occupied. Trundle off to the historic market town of Brigg (10 minutes’ drive) or head towards the Humber Bridge for nature-filled days in the birdwatching areas, RSPB nature reserves and on the Viking Way trail (15 minutes). Other worthwhile destinations deep in the countryside hereabouts include the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (30 minutes) with its hills and flat fens for hiking and biking. If you’re thinking of adding some city saunters to your hol, head to Hull (40 minutes) for the underwater wildlife-watching tunnels in The Deep aquarium and the educational establishments in the Museums Quarter. Lincoln, meanwhile, has a cathedral with a library designed by architect Christopher Wren and a castle displaying one of the copies of the Magna Carta (50 minutes).

Cogsworth cabin (no pets, six person)

Liked: The view from the cabin is absolutely incredible, the shower and toilet facilities are really clean, the Cafe is lovely, the staff are fabulous providing transport to and from the cabin (it is at the top of a steep hill) and fresh drinking water is provided.

Disliked: We stayed during a heatwave and there was little shade around the cabin. Although, we did escape from the heat with a walk through the on site woods, which was great!

Philippe bell tent (no pets, six person)

Liked: Everything! Tipi was fantastic Everything you need Inside for a comfortable stay. Beds made up, cooking facilities, kettle, crockery and cutlery. Lovely space outside to eat, on a decking area and also a picnic bench. The views are spectacular the weather was beautiful so made it even better. There is a toilet near site and the shower block and washing up a 5 minute walk. This is definitely worth it for the peace, quite, views and safety for children. Showers where very clean and comfortable with a larger one for families. The hosts where great, excellent communication and supported you with luggage up/down from the tent. There is a little cafe at the bottom which serves an excellent breakfast at a good price if you don't fancy cooking in the morning.

Lumiere bell tent (pet friendly, four person)

Liked: Everything! The tent was clean and inviting and the beds were very comfortable. Everything you could need was provided (besides food) and myself and toddle daughter had a wonderful 2 night stay here. We were helped to our tent with our belongings which was great as the pitch is up at the top of a steep hill. If you dont have mobility issues then it shouldn't be a problem navigating the site. It's worth the climb because the views on the site are absolutely stunning and it was lovely and peaceful. Lots of room to run around in the sunshine and play games and we toasted marshmallows in the evening on the firepit. We also had a walk around the lakes and spotted dragonflies and rabbits and everyone was very friendly and said hello. Was a really lovely spot to visit. Our host (Barbara) during our stay was absolutely amazing and she couldn't do enough to make sure we were sorted and had everything we needed. Very friendly and welcoming and lovely and patient with my very shy child.  The bathroom facilities near the carpark were private and spacious (with a hairdryer!) and the portaloo up by the tents was very handy and also kept very clean during our stay. Will definitely be returning in the future. (The chocolate cake from the cafe also went down very well with my daughter)

Disliked: Nothing.
