  • Peaceful dog-friendly site at a farm on the Lincolnshire coast
  • A 10-minute drive to Mablethorpe; 15 minutes to Donna Nook seals
  • Back to basics pitches 10 minutes' walk from the nearest beach
Lincolnshire’s coast is a fabulous place to take a holiday, and you’ll have supremely easy access to it while staying at Bidston Farm Campsite. So easy, in fact, that you’ll be able to stroll down to the nearest beach within about 10 minutes – how splendid is that? The beach in question is a secluded and unspoilt stretch of sand that’s part of the Saltfleetby-Theddlethorpe Dunes National Nature Reserve – follow the direct route through the dunes or take a detour along one of the walking trails for a more thorough exploration of the area’s wildlife and scenery. And that’s not all that’s within walking distance… a 10-minute walk down a quiet country lane will also get you to a private stretch of river for a peaceful fishing spot. Set your sights a little further afield and you should find plenty more to keep you occupied for days out around here, including the attractions of Mablethorpe, the cute seals of Donna Nook and the independent shops of foodie favourite Louth – all of which are within 20 minutes’ drive. Skegness, Ingoldmells and Lincoln are all on the menu too if you don’t mind driving a little further. Back at base it’s a very simple setup that’s all about the traditional camping vibe with plenty of space on a well-maintained grass meadow within a quiet rural farm. Guests will have access to portable toilets but please note there are no showers on site. It’s all very laidback here, so families, dogs and barbecues are all welcome. The owners recommend bringing a torch to find your way around at night as you’ll get proper rural darkness here (great news for those seeking starry skies overhead…)

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Quiet back to basics campsite. Friendly welcome Spotless portaloos Emma was an absolutely amazing host. Friendly, brought water for our dog, ice lollies for the kids. Made her aware we were coming for our son’s birthday and she made a fuss of him on arrival which was such a personal touch. Hay bales and kids toys in the centre of the field which kept my kids (age 10 and 7) entertained. Lots of wildlife (frogs, dragonfies, butterflies to name a few) We loved it and will definitely return! Thank you Emma!

Disliked: Not a dislike but we drove past 3 times before ringing Emma to help. Maybe a sign of some sort as from the road you wouldn’t know there was a campsite there

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked: Everything. These is nothing not to like. Emma greeted us at the entrance and left us free to choose where to park our Motorhome. Very friendly helpful and welcoming. Came to see us and asked if we needed anything. Explained where everything was. She is a real treasure. The site is spotlessly clean and tidy. Lovely and quiet. At night beautiful skies unspoilt by no street lights. Ideal for stat gazing. A short walk out the site and you are on the the sand dunes leading to a beautiful dog friendly peaceful beach.

Disliked: Having to leave.

Local attractions

Start your stay with an exploration of the local area – both the Saltfleetby-Theddlethorpe Dunes and nearby Rimac National Nature Reserve have some lovely trails to walk along, and with the prospect of a dip in the sea at the end if you like. For a different seaside day, head to Mablethorpe (10 minutes’ drive) for another beach, the seal sanctuary and the Lincolnshire Aquapark (plus indoor attractions for damp days), or go north to Donna Nook Grey Seal Colony (15 minutes) to see the creatures in their native habitat. A little further away, Ingoldmells (half an hour) is a popular day out for the Fantasy Island theme park, and there’s plenty of family-friendly fun in Skegness (40 minutes) too. Although the coast is excellent, it’s worth taking time to go inland as well for a browse through the shops of Louth (20 minutes), an audience with the cuties at Rushmoor Farm Park (15 minutes) or a day out in historic Lincoln.
