Sunset #2

  • Peaceful family-run site on the edge of Chapel St Leonards
  • A 10-minute drive to Fantasy Island and 20 minutes to Skegness
  • Wide, sandy Chapel Point beach 10 minutes' walk away
Pack up your bucket and spade if you’re heading to Rosa Campsite – this is prime sandcastle territory. In fact, with a smashing (and lengthy) sandy beach a mere few minutes’ amble from the site, it’s worth bringing all your fave beach kit to make the most of your coastal stay… Vicky and Shaun have set up their site in a quiet spot around a 10-minute walk from Chapel Point beach, and take pride in the friendly and helpful welcome they offer to guests. There’s a peaceful rural vibe here, with acres of farmland views to gaze out over, but it's all only 20 minutes' walk from the pubs, cafés and small supermarket in the coastal village of Chapel St Leonards. Pitches are in a large grass field that’s pleasingly flat, with plenty of space for kids’ games and family barbecues to co-exist without issue. Showers are close by for convenient riddance of accumulated sand; they’re free to use and kept mightily clean. A washing-up area and recycling facility are also provided to keep the place spick and span.

Liked: I enjoyed the peace and quiet and big skies on this lovely little site. Just a short walk to the beach through the caravan park next door. Friendly welcome on arrival but otherwise left to my own devices. The facilities were minimal but perfectly good. If I find myself in this part of the world again I will definitely come back.

Disliked: Nothing it was all good.

Liked: Greeted by a friendly owner on arrival. Lovely quiet site with a 10/15 min walk to the beach. Plenty of space for your pitch with toilets and showers close by. Basic facilities but adequate for what you need. Lovely sunset on the evening. Reasonable check out time of 12pm

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Peaceful small level site with shower, toilet, washing up, chemical toilet disposal, fresh water and grey water disposal. Within easy walking distance of the beach and “promenade” leading to St Leonard’s. Also North Sea Observatory is much has lovely cafe serving during the day. Good value for a coastal site. Friendly owner.

Disliked: Facilities are basic and dated. At busy times an old static caravan is opened to use the toilet and shower in there. Though the facilities seemed surface clean they did not appear to be regularly cleaned during our stay resulting in reluctance to trust the cleanliness.

Liked: What a lovely little site! Thank goodness we found it! We wanted to visit Skegness without the noise on an evening. So quiet after 10pm until 8am. Walk to the beach was about 10mins. Walk to pub was about the same. Town walkable as well. Nearby beach beautiful. The owners were super friendly. The toilets weren’t really an issue in the end. We were a little worried about them before we set off after reading reviews. They aren’t posh, but not full of bugs (which is important to us!). Just take flip flops to use in the shower I would say. In a weeks stay there we didn’t struggle to get a shower or use the toilet.

Powered grass tent campsite

Liked: The site was beautifully kept, the pitches level with enough distance between tents/vans to have your own space without feeling overlooked. Showers were hot, toilets clean and were checked every morning to ensure cleanliness. Beautiful sunsets can be watched from the site, with little to no obstruction.

Liked: Vicki met us on arrival with a very warm and friendly welcome. The pitch was large and spacious and the site was very safe for young children to play. The toilets and showers were basic but more than adequate and clean. The site is very family friendly and we had no issues with any antisocial behaviour or excessive noise. A peaceful, relaxing site. The best we have found.

Disliked: Nothing.

Local attractions

Beachy options of all flavours are within easy reach if you’d like to expand your paddling horizons beyond Chapel Point. Drive for 10 minutes to reach the natural dunes of Anderby Creek or head the other way for all sorts of amusements in Ingoldmells. Fantasy Island is the big draw in town – rides and rollercoasters await for visitors of all ages, plus bowling, adventure golf, go-karts and plenty more. The seaside resort of Skegness is about 20 minutes away; traditional fun here includes donkey rides, amusement arcades and some smashing splashing in the Fairy Dell paddling pool. Skegness Aquarium has a fab collection of marine animals including sharks, octopus and colourful clown fish, and animal fans should take a detour to Skegness's Natureland Seal Sanctuary too. Further furry friends await your visit at Hardys Animal Farm, 10 minutes away – take a tractor ride, feed the goats and, if you’re lucky, see newborn baby lambs and fluffy chicks. Gunby Hall, a National Trust property 20 minutes away, makes another great day out: take the house tour before wandering round the walled gardens and wildflower areas of the estate and having a genteel game of croquet. If your walking boots want a bit of action, it'll take you 25 minutes to drive over to the Lincolnshire Wolds, where you can hit the trails through woodland and grassland to see the wildlife now abundant in the abandoned chalk pits.
