The Hideaway shepherd's hut

Liked: We took our grandson on his first fishing weekend and could not have chosen a better site for this experience. We stayed in the The Hideaway, Shepherds hut which was brilliant. Although small had everything you needed, 3 of everything, induction hob, microwave, toaster, fridge with small freezer, torch, caffetriere and a teapot! Small sitting area in the hut along with a double bed and single bunk over the top. There's under floor heating too, to make it cosy when needed. Outside area is hugh, large sofa area and large wooden table overlooking the lake on the veranda. Lower level, is the fire pit, BBQ, another sitting area and parking. Lowered again is the fishing staging. A few short steps away is a single toilet and single shower block, which is spotless. The site is very clean, tidy and well maintained. Nice to see thoughts has been used with the placing of the units, no one feels you are on top of your neighbours. Lovely welcome, extremely peaceful and looking forward to our return very soon.

Disliked: A couple of very small points. There where sachets of tea and coffee out on arrival but no milk? Perhaps this was overlooked on change over. But no real issue. Regarding the Willow next to fishing peg, this could be do with cutting back next winter, as it does means you have too watch out when casting out, and it does look as though others have found the same issue as there is a float decoration hanging on the tree.

1 bedroom camping pod

Liked: Tranquil setting, cleanliness of facilities and fishing. We stayed in a pod overlooking the lake, which offered a great view and ever better fishing! Rachel (Owner) was incredibly nice and attentive. The site is beautiful, quiet and clean. There is an honesty box for kindling and logs for the fire pits provided as well as a bench and bbq area directly outside the pod, so you can cook and enjoy a fire whilst looking over the water. The toilet/shower is clean and only about 20 steps away from the accommodation, which is perfect for little feet! I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a chilled out week…

Disliked: Nothing!

1 bedroom camping pod

Liked: According to my sons the best weekend in their lives! The pod was all we needed for our 3days break- comfy beds and waking up to singing birds. There was everything we needed and sweet surprise from Rachel when we arrived. My 3 fishermen had a blast- plenty of fish to catch and very over the moon. We will definitely be back 😊

Local attractions

It’s not all about the fishing – this is a fine place for folks who fancy a bit of rural rambling or riding. There are plenty of quiet lanes and footpaths around for a bike ride or a walk (excellent news for those bringing a canine pal), and some super nature trails for birdwatchers at the RSPB Freiston Shore reserve, 15 minutes away. Advanced equine handlers may be in the area for dressage lessons or competitions five minutes away at Sheepgate Equestrian; those with less refined skills or who just fancy seeing some of the countryside from horseback can join lessons or hacks from a riding centre 10 minutes away instead. Steer seawards and you’ll hit Skegness in about 15 minutes for beach days and trips to its aquarium, seal sanctuary and go-kart track. Head inland instead to visit the market town of Boston (20 minutes) for boat trips and the bubblecar museum, or take your shopoholic self to the antique centres of Horncastle, half an hour away.
