  • Adults-only campsite in hilly countryside near Market Harborough
  • A 10-minute drive to Foxton Locks, and 20 to Lutterworth
  • Covered communal eating area; dark skies site and wildlife haven
Base yourself at Valley View Campsite for a peaceful, adults-only stay among Leicestershire hills and valleys near Market Harborough, or use the place as a base for day trips to the bright lights of Birmingham (an hour’s drive). Either way, those far-reaching rural views come as standard on all the spacious pitches. No-frills facilities cover spotlessly clean showers and loos (there’s no electricity by the way, so factor in torches for late-night trips around the site). Barbecues are allowed or you can pick up takeaways in Fleckney (five minutes’ drive) and eat in The Barn, an undercover communal dining area for unwinding, meeting fellow guests and doing the washing up. If the weather is behaving and conditions are right, you may catch some colourful sunrises and sunsets, and as the area has a low level of light pollution, some serious stargazing is possible on clear nights. The site is also something of a wildlife haven, so keep your eyes peeled for sparrow hawks and buzzards, rabbits and deer. Dogs are welcome at Valley View, and there’s a separate area where you can take them for exercise.

Powered grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: I am reluctant to give this review as it may persuade an avalanche of people to visit Valley View and make it hard for us to sneak in some more bookings before the summer season ends. The view of the sunsets is stunning. The pitches are well maintained and the facilities are excellent. This is all topped by the ever helpful, warm and kind owner Helen. We are in our first season of caravaning and Helen was super generous with her time in reminding us of how to pitch up quickly and effectively. Such a peaceful place with Foxton Locks down the road and lovely walks on the door step. A totally relaxing stay. Thank you.

Power optional grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: The views were fantastic as was the wildlife. First time here won’t be the last. It was just so lovely the pitches were flat, the shower, washing block was extremely clean and even had a relaxing room with settee’s and chairs in the chill if you wanted to, there was also a large fridge and table to sit and eat your food should you wish . The place was immaculate, they have thought of everything😋 I met the host who was very welcoming.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike

Local attractions

Starting in the village of Mowsley, have a wander on foot around the Laughton Hills or do some exploring on horseback from the local riding stables (both five minutes’ drive). For a gentle stroll, follow the Grand Union Canal towpath out of the village – it’s an easy walk to Foxton Locks (10 minutes), where you can watch barges ascend a flight of 10 locks, hire a boat to chug along the canal yourself, or have a nose around Foxton Canal Museum (15 minutes). Exercise completed for the day? Foxton Locks Inn is the spot for a virtuous post-walk pint and a bite to eat. If you have the urge to spend some of your hard-earned cash, Market Harborough (15 minutes’ drive) is packed with antiques emporiums and unusual shops, or try Lutterworth (20 minutes) for its historic Thursday market and stick around for a tour of elegant 17th-century Stanford Hall (20 minutes, check opening dates before you visit).
