  • Adults-only campsite in hilly countryside near Market Harborough
  • A 10-minute drive to Foxton Locks, and 20 to Lutterworth
  • Covered communal eating area; dark skies site and wildlife haven
Base yourself at Valley View Campsite for a peaceful, adults-only stay among Leicestershire hills and valleys near Market Harborough, or use the place as a base for day trips to the bright lights of Birmingham (an hour’s drive). Either way, those far-reaching rural views come as standard on all the spacious pitches. No-frills facilities cover spotlessly clean showers and loos. Barbecues are allowed or you can pick up takeaways in Fleckney (five minutes’ drive) and eat in The Barn, an undercover communal dining area for unwinding, meeting fellow guests and doing the washing up. If the weather is behaving and conditions are right, you may catch some colourful sunrises and sunsets, and as the area has a low level of light pollution, some serious stargazing is possible on clear nights. The site is also something of a wildlife haven, so keep your eyes peeled for sparrow hawks and buzzards, rabbits and deer. Dogs are welcome at Valley View, and there’s a separate area where you can take them for exercise.

What customers say

This adults-only site boasts gorgeous valley views and a serene vibe. Guests rave about the spotless facilities, including showers and washrooms, and the friendly owner, Helen. The communal barn with seating, games, and drinks is a welcome perk, especially in bad weather. Sites are usually well-kept and roomy. Minor notes on shower access during peak times and electricity costs exist, but most find it a well-run, chill getaway.

Power optional grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Lovely adults only site, fantastic views, clean facilities! Loved the barn area with indoor seating , fridge, kettle & toaster! Fantastic touch by the lovely owner Helen! Clean site & pitches are decent size and felt safe as a solo camper. Electric hook up on every pitch although I didn’t book for electric as I didn’t need it for a 2 night stay.

Disliked Didn’t stay longer!

Local attractions

Starting in the village of Mowsley, have a wander on foot around the Laughton Hills or do some exploring on horseback from the local riding stables (both five minutes’ drive). For a gentle stroll, follow the Grand Union Canal towpath out of the village – it’s an easy walk to Foxton Locks (10 minutes), where you can watch barges ascend a flight of 10 locks, hire a boat to chug along the canal yourself, or have a nose around Foxton Canal Museum (15 minutes). Exercise completed for the day? Foxton Locks Inn is the spot for a virtuous post-walk pint and a bite to eat. If you have the urge to spend some of your hard-earned cash, Market Harborough (15 minutes’ drive) is packed with antiques emporiums and unusual shops, or try Lutterworth (20 minutes) for its historic Thursday market and stick around for a tour of elegant 17th-century Stanford Hall (20 minutes, check opening dates before you visit).
