Camping under the trees (added by manager 15 Aug 2022)
Quiet rural camping just 12 miles from central london
Love coming here so close to london
You are free to choose your pitch wherever you like

  • Large peaceful parkland site 12 miles from central London
  • Café, playgrounds and barbecue rental
  • Activities on site including nature walks and animal feeding
City slickers – if you yearn for the bright lights of the UK capital but feel slightly faint at London hotel prices, it's likely that you'll find the setting of Elstree's Aldenham Country Park magic. The wild camping pitches at this peaceful park are less than a mile from the M1 motorway and 12 miles from central London – and three from Muggle-based antics at The Making of Harry Potter as well as seven from Wembley Stadium. (And another excellent aspect of Aldenham's location? It's a great option for Londoners seeking a nearby bolthole too.) Although it's so close to the city, Aldenham is spellbindingly rural, set on a 175-acre parkland site next to a large lake and maintaining a quiet countryside atmosphere with nature walks and animal feeding among the activities for guests. Kids can also search for Winnie in the Pooh in the park's 100 Aker Wood area. Other activities include cycle rides on woodland trails. The site's facilities include a café, playgrounds, barbecue rental and a shop selling farm produce. The amenities block has toilets, showers and disabled access.

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: The amount of available space. It is a country park with extra activities available but as a campsite over priced for facilities available. Helpful and visable night security staff who obviously keep on top of antisocial behaviour.

Disliked: For the cost on a non electric pitch would have expected proper facilities for wash/shower. Instead of portaloos for the cost would have at least expected portacabin toilets / showers and easily accessible rubbish disposal (without an extortionate nightly cost).

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: We loved every moment of of our stay at Aldenham country park. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. The atmosphere is great for young children and family's. The adventure play park and farm are brilliant for nice days out away from the campsite. The rustic cafe had a wonderful vibe and serves delicious breakfasts and cakes. Our favourite part of it all was walking through the 100 aker wood and having campfires at night. Highly recommend to all. We also backpacked the entire way very easy to get to ideal for families who want to get away from the city.

Disliked: The toilets had recycled waste but the showers were quite nice only the water was boiling hot to the point you couldn't wash under it and I like my water hot!
