Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked: The overall location is brilliant right next to the river, but the river pitches are small and not guaranteed (first come first serve). But there is plenty of space in the adjacent field etc

Disliked: Every thing else sadly. Read precious reviews and assumed it was having a shower and toilet block installed ao booked this site. Turns out showers and toilets are only for the glamping pods and camper get 4 portaloos (3 brimming with waste) and a water tap by the gate. It wouldn't be bad but there isn't even a toilet disposal for your own toilet (yes I saw it said no chemical but i presumed that was no pink and blue and you need the eco green toilet stuff). So I had to bring home and empty in my toilet 🙈. It's literally wild camping with a toilet. Which then I think the price is quite high for just the use of a field and access to a river.... 100% would return if better facilities as I came with 2 young children. Hopefully pitch up ammends their description.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked: Beautiful location right on the banks of the Wye river with wonderful views. Great pub just a couple of minutes drive (or a 15 minute walk). It felt a lot like wild camping.

Route directions

what3words location: ///snaps.reefs.films If you are coming from Preston-on-Wye, travel all the way through the village and continue for just under a mile. You will pass over a small red brick bridge and down a slight hill. At the bottom of the slope the road turns sharply left. Turn off the road here to the right, passing a triangle green to your left, and a large pool on your right. Turn into the first gate on the left, which is the farm gate. In the farmyard, drive through the next get in front of you, with the church on the right. Follow the path through the next gate and look out for signs directing you to either the campsite (go left) or glamping (go straight on).

Local attractions

The scenery around here is rather lovely, and there are several ways to explore it, including playing a round at a local golf club or taking a walk to historic landmarks like Arthur’s Stone, five miles away. If it’s hiking you’re into, it may also be handy to know that the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park is about 25 minutes’ drive away too. Also on the banks of the river are the town of Hay-on-Wye and the city of Hereford. Both are about 25 minutes’ drive away and well worth a trip – the former for its many bookshops and the latter for attractions like the Mappa Mundi exhibition and the Black and White House Museum. If it’s green views you’re after, turn your attentions instead to the likes of Brobury House Gardens and National Trust - The Weir Garden (both 15 minutes’ drive). The Small Breeds Farm Park (25 minutes) is a popular pick for kids, as it’s got all sorts of cute animals to meet and greet.
