Lovely spring afternoon
New
Grass and gravel pitches, all with optional electric hook-up
Looking over to the lower pitches
Spring afternoon in the quarry field

  • Touring pitches at a family site half an hour's drive from Worceseter
  • Brockhampton estate and Bromyard five minutes’ drive; Hereford 30 mins
  • Dogs welcome; access to woodland walks; 40-minute walk to a pub
Just off the A44, the road that links Bromyard (five minutes’ drive) to Worcester (half an hour), is Bromyard Downs Campsite. Staying here puts you within the wonderfully lush surroundings of the Worcestershire countryside, and within a 25-minute drive of the Malvern Hills National Landscape. If forest bathing is what you are after, this might just be the place for you. This site gives you the option to pitch your caravan on gravel or on grass, and in one of two linked areas (the Quarry Field or the Woodland Field). Ultimately, though, there are no wrong decisions, because both fields are equally splendid, surrounded by tall, shade-giving trees and with plenty of room to let the kids have a runaround and to set up a barbecue. Although this simple site has no toilets or showers, all pitches have an electric hook-up and both the Quarry and the Woodland fields have fresh water and Elsan disposal points. Fields of seasonal bluebells stretch just beyond the site, making a top setting for a walk or a photoshoot with your four-legged friend (the site welcomes most dogs, with some breed restrictions). Woodland paths starting from the site lead to butterfly-rich Bromyard Downs (25 minutes on foot). Alternatively, walk the 40 minutes to Bringsty Common, and reward yourself with a pint and a meal at the local pub, a 16th-century thatched building with exposed wooden beams hung with hops.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked Lovely well laid out site with pitches clearly marked.
Electric hook up on every pitch reasonably priced per night.
Friendly site owners.
Well signposted from the road.

Disliked A toilet block would be a great addition but the lack of facilities clearly notified so we were prepared.
We went outside peak times, the grass pitches may feel small if the site is full.

Power optional gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Great sized pitches with well kept grounds.
The family that run this site as so friendly and make the time to talk to you and feel welcome.
The walking opportunity from here will keep you busy for a while.

The site has only recently been acquired by the owners and they are making it look and feel loved.

I don't know if there was any wifi but we didn't need it as we hot spotted from our mobile phones.

I have not given 10 stars for location because there isn't any convenience stores local enough for those who can't walk far.

Disliked Not really a dislike but no shower block / campers kitchen but that's controversial given most of us have our own facilities.

Power optional gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Our stay at Bromyard Camp Down Campsite was absolutely wonderful. The site is very quiet and peaceful, making it the perfect place to relax and unwind. As newcomers to caravanning, we were a little unprepared, but the owner was incredibly kind and helpful — even assisting us when we realised we hadn’t brought a water pipe.
There’s also a lovely dog walk close by, which made the stay even more enjoyable. We felt very welcome and well looked after throughout our visit. We will definitely be returning again and would highly recommend this campsite to anyone looking for a calm and friendly getaway.

Local attractions

The moated, timber-framed manor house at National Trust Brockhampton (five minutes’ drive) has been standing since the 1420s. Check out the impressive estate, with its woodland walks and vast orchards (good news: dogs on leads are allowed on the grounds), and soak up the views of the countryside. In Worcester (half an hour), the Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum has an eclectic collection ranging from dinosaur footprints to ethnographic artefacts, plus the Lea and Perrins Archive (you are in Worcestershire, after all). If you wish to admire the local ceramics, head to the Museum of Royal Worcester; if you’re into classical music, check out the National Trust - The Firs: Elgar's Birthplace. Speaking of Elgar, a statue outside the cathedral in Hereford (half an hour) depicts him leaning against his bicycle as he takes in the spectacular architecture. Step inside the cathedral to look at the centuries-old Mappa Mundi (a map of the world as it was known in the Middle Ages) and the Chained Library.
