Woodside field pitches

  • Small but spacious adults-only motorhome park in Old Sodbury
  • A 20-minute drive to Westonbirt; half an hour to Bristol or Bath
  • Sheltered pitches close to Cotswold Way; two pubs within a short walk
What’s on the wishlist for a place to park your motorhome? Peace and quiet? Plenty of space? Pub within walking distance? If so, it’s a win-win-win for Woodside Field Motorhome Park, a south Gloucestershire site on the western edge of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It’s an adults-only setup here, so you won’t have any noisy kids to contend with – and despite being a sizeable property there are only a handful of pitches, so everyone gets plenty of space to spread out and relax. Pitches are part of a large open field surrounded by hedges and a small woodland area, so it’s all nicely sheltered too (and it’s easy to go for a wander in the woods too…) The park only accepts motorhomes and campervans, no tents or roof tents, and provides basic facilities to keep those rolling homes in good order – these include a water supply, chemical waste disposal point and a drive-over grey waste point. Guests are welcome to bring dogs along with them as long as they’re well behaved and kept on a lead (and the site is kept clean). Handily, all of this is only a couple of miles from the M4 so you won’t have to navigate lots of little lanes to get in. All sorts of days out are easily sorted from here, including countryside rambles and bike rides on the Cotswold Way (which passes about 10 minutes’ walk away), visits to Westonbirt Arboretum or outings to Bristol and Bath. And the pub? Good news… the park is on the edge of the village of Old Sodbury, which has two pubs (both serving food) within 15 minutes’ walk, plus a convenience store and bus stops.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked: Easy to communicate with the owner. Although this is just a field with water and waste points, it is a great open space and you can park where you like. It was extremely quiet and we had a good night's sleep. There is a pub at the end of the lane too. We will be back.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked: Lovely little site, nice and quiet, well maintained, level pitch. Nice short dog walk from the site. Great for recycling your rubbish. Saw bats flying about at night. Not too far from the m4 so ideal as a stop off on the way to Wales.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked: The field was immaculate. The dog walk through the woods was lovely. The facilities were excellent - water, grey waste, loo waste. The owners were really helpful when I had a problem with the camper and there was loads of space. A friend joined me for Badminton at the Weekend which was only miles away.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked: The site is a Beautifully kept open space with surrounding woodland and wildlife that made for a really chilled stay with our dog in tow - well looked after facilities - warm welcome from owner who was there to greet us upon arrival and let us in the locked and secure gate - clear directions to site were given before hand - very dog friendly - Great pub within walking distance called ‘The Dog inn’ - we wouldn’t hesitate to return for a peaceful off grid getaway from it all again.

Local attractions

Up for a walk? The Cotswold Way is about 10 minutes away on foot, or you can follow a lovely circular walk past the village church and hill fort, ending (rather conveniently) at the pub. The Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty has plenty more walks and cycle routes to offer, and it’s a fruitful area for geocaching too. Elsewhere around the area, you may like to play golf in Chipping Sodbury (five minutes’ drive), take a walk around pretty Castle Combe (15 minutes), explore the elegant National Trust property Dyrham Park (15 minutes) or wander around Westonbirt, The National Arboretum (20 minutes). This is also a handy spot for outings to the Badminton Horse Trials (10 minutes). Mixing up the countryside with some urban time is easy around here – Bristol and Bath are both about half an hour’s drive away or accessible by public transport.
