  • Small and friendly site 100 yards from the River Severn
  • Close to a riverside 15th-century inn
  • A 50-minute walk into the historic town of Tewkesbury
Take time out for a spot of fishing on the River Severn, followed by a drink in the 15th-century inn nearby, where the views are as tasty as the food and drink... The Willows is a small, friendly site in a spectacular and hugely handy location: despite being encircled by lush scenery with the river (and separately owned pub) a mere hundred yards away, it’s also a 50-minute walk into the lovely historic town of Tewkesbury. You can pick up your freshwater fishing permit in the pub (as if you needed an excuse for a visit...).

Local attractions

Slotted into a slender strip of land at the meeting point of the Severn and Avon rivers, Tewkesbury hasn’t changed much over the centuries: black and white Tudor buildings overhang the narrow streets, and the 12th-century abbey has the highest Norman tower in England. There are town and country museums to explore, historic buildings like the Old Baptist Chapel, plus shops and entertainment aplenty. The local countryside and riverbanks are great for ramblers and guests can find boat and bike hire, windsurfing and golf courses nearby. Also on your doorstep are the golden villages and verdant hills of the Cotswolds and attractive provincial towns and cities such as Cheltenham and Gloucester.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Nothing

Disliked: The site was very tired. Grass needed cutting. The tap was black and green with mould. The walkway up to the toilet block was broken and patch up badly. The toilets and shower were full of spiders and cobwebs. Would not stay there again.

Liked: Lovely level pitches. Very quiet site

Disliked: Toilets, showers and sink space in poor condition. Mould, spiders, cobwebs. Did not use facilities due to poor condition. Such a let down for a nice site. Smell from septic tank next to washroom extremely unpleasant. Also pub not open, unable to find opening times and ferry from pub to Tewksbury hasn’t been running since lockdown . This would have been helpful to no prior to booking .
