  • Off-grid family-friendly farm site in a scenic Cotswolds valley
  • A 10-minute drive to Arlington Row; 20 minutes to Cotswold Water Park
  • Firepits provided; pubs with food and a garden 10 minutes’ walk away
When you arrive in the Cotswolds, it’s easy to get swept away in the honey-coloured villages, countryside landscapes and wandering wildlife. So set your anchor at The T Barn, a scenic farm valley site 10 minutes’ drive from Bibury and Cirencester nicely set up for a cosy retreat in England’s largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. From here, you’ll be well-based to get out to cycle-easy lanes, nature reserve trails or stretches of farmland – or take to the water with paddleboarding, windsurfing and the like at the Cotswold Water Park 20 minutes’ drive away. The site is 10 minutes’ walk from the handsome village of Barnsley – it's a small place but its village pub and hotel both bring a buzz with some splendid food and distinguished garden design in the hotel. On site, there are hot showers, luxury compost loos and a hut for washing up dishes, so the essentials are all covered. A few solar lights show the way around at night, as this place is off-grid for guests to take some time off the tech. Given that this site is quite remote, those of you who don’t want to bring a car might have lots of walking in store – but while cars are useful they’re not essential to your stay, as buses stop in the village four times per day. The local train stations are Kemble (15 minutes’ drive) or Swindon (35 minutes’ drive) and bicycles also have easy access to the site.

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Fantastic site, park where you want by a firepit. Lovely valley views. Toilets and showers are clean and Eloise the owner pops round Wood and kindling available to buy if required and you can hire an Ooni pizza oven and ingredients. We fell asleep to the hooting of an owl. Second time we have booked and we will be back 😁

Disliked: Several tent campers did not adhere to requirement to set camp and then move their car to the car parking area which meant the field was quite crowded.

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Beautiful, quiet and peaceful site with just cows, grass, trees and a hill to sit on and watch the sunset. Eco toilet well kept. Lovely pub at 10min. walk in pittoresk village. Lots to do in the area, such as the Roman Villa, a beautiful village, nearby towns and gardens.

Disliked: There was no hot water during our stay so no shower either. It was fixed on the Tuesday that we left.

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Small, simple, decent showers, owls hooting in the nearby trees, no phone reception (a plus!), very little noise or light pollution, friendly greeting from Elouise shortly after we arrived. Felt remote enough, yet easy enough to get to Cirencester or elsewhere in Cotswolds for a day out.

Bell tent

Liked: Having some time out from phones and devices. Great little site for our family! Bell Tents are beautiful! We loved having the fire pit to roast marshmallows with our toddler! Great break for anyone looking for some time out from the world.

Disliked: Only a small thing but took a while for me to find the name of our bell tent on the pitch up email. Could be a bit clearer.

Bell tent

Liked: The location is in the middle of Cotswolds meaning very easy access to Bibury, Bourton-on-the-water, Winchcome and a lot of National Trust places. It’s best place to do meditation as it’s an off-grid campsite with no electricity and mobile signal. The hill is a great place to see sunset and the scenery farm lands. My wife and I love it, but teenagers are opposite.

Disliked: - The composite toilet could be a challenge for some people, e.g. I have to drive my elder son to Tesco Extra for normal toilet - The road towards the campsite about 150 yards is merely can fit one car meaning you have to drive extremely carefully for pedestrians or opposite car - No one collects rubbish, even for 4 days 3 nights stay

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for your review, glad you enjoyed your time here. I can imagine its hard to get teenagers to enjoy something with no wifi.... Quick question on your review, do you mean the rubbish bin at your bell tent or the communal rubbish bins at the gate? I'm sure we can tackle this issue... not much we can do about the off-grid elements though. Maybe see you again without the children!

Bell tent

Liked: The site is beautiful and the tents are lovely. We had everything we needed and it was so comfortable. Eloise popped by to say hello and was super welcoming. We enjoyed sitting round the fire at our own fire pit and the set-up including screens between each tent made it really private. Compost loos were spotlessly clean, as were the showers - they were warm, clean and good water pressure - perfect shower! There’s also a communal dining shelter and a guide to the local area. Cars are kept in the top corner of the site which added to the peace and quiet. The local area is great - you feel really like you’re immersed in the countryside but after a very short drive out of the fields, you can get to Cirencester in 10 mins and lots of fab Cotswold pubs and villages. We would recommend The Stump for pizzas (10 mins away) and The Wheatsheaf in Northleach (15 mins). We visited Stow, Burford, Bibury and Lechlade, plus Kelmscott Manor (William Morris home) and Chedworth Roman Villa (National Trust), so there’s plenty to do nearby. We loved our stay. Highly recommend.

From the manager: This is a wonderful review - thank you, its made my day! I'm so glad you you had a good time staying with us and had fun in the local area. Hope to see you again sometime. Eloise

Local attractions

Horse riding your thing? The Talland School of Equitation (five minutes’ drive or 20 minutes’ walk) will introduce you to the local bridle paths. Whether it’s a lesson or a private ride you decide to trot off on, it's best to book in advance. But for a different mode of transport, the farm shop at Abbey Home Farm (five minutes’ drive) rents out bicycles or ebikes for a ride with a little extra oomph. You’ll have no hard time finding a suitable landscape for your camera in Bibury (10 minutes), as this is a particularly photogenic village with a scenic aquaculture farm too. The National Trust’s Lodge Park & Sherborne Park Estate (20 minutes) is another scenic spot, with England’s only surviving 17th-century grandstand as a unique feature. As for your wander down the National Trust's Arlington Row (10 minutes), you might feel like you’re right back in the old times among the row of weavers’ cottages from the 17th century, fashioned from what was once a 14th-century monastic wool store. And how to finish off? Perhaps with some watersports like paddleboarding, windsurfing or boating at the Cotswold Water Park (20 minutes)? Or the wildlife at Birdland Park & Gardens (25 minutes)?
