  • Dog-friendly site on a working farm in the Peak District National Park
  • A 15-minute drive from Bakewell and 20 minutes from Chatsworth House
  • Walks direct from the pitches and a welcoming pub 10 minutes’ stroll
Cows and sheep for neighbours, gorgeous walks from the pitches and the likes of Bakewell (home of delicious almond-flavoured tarts) and Chatsworth House within 20 minutes’ drive… who could turn down a Peak District National Park getaway at Brosterfield Farm Caravan Park? What a stunning and peaceful place it is, too: the camping meadow is surrounded by fields and operates as a quiet site, which means no loud noise or music allowed, please, as the owners want you to relax and get back to nature. Spotless facilities include modern showers, toilets, a pot-washing area and a chemical disposal point. In addition, there are a couple of electric-car charging points as well as recycling facilities in the corner of the camping field. Barbecues are allowed (bring your own from home), and you can stock up on bits for the grill at the supermarket in Bakewell. Your canine chums (up to two per pitch) are also welcome, and luckily, the local pub is dog-friendly (both inside and out) with an excellent restaurant, open fires and good ales. It’s only 10 minutes’ walk away in the pretty village of Foolow, which has a duck pond and is the start of many Peak District walks and mountain-biking trails.

What customers say

Beautiful, peaceful new campsite with spacious, level pitches. Clean, modern facilities (warm showers, good dishwashing areas). Well-maintained and secure with gated entrance. Local pub nearby. Field can get muddy in wet weather, and toilet/shower cubicles can be busy during peak times. Highly recommended for tranquility and cleanliness.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Accepting that March is off-peak, the campsite was quiet and very peaceful. The showers and toilets were very clean and the site greatly benefits from on-site management.

Disliked The site is barrier protected (in itself a benefit) but the email with the entry code was never received. However, this was quickly resolved by calling the number on the gate notice. The site is on a slight slope, but easily manageable. Vehicle exit is through a heavy gate which does not stay open if there is any wind. If you are on your own you will need a bungy cord to hold it open while you drive through.

From the manager: Thank you for your review and I am so glad you enjoyed the peaceful site.

Regarding the bottom gate, this is not our normal exit and is only a temporary exit in the winter.

The gate is normally held back by a very large stone so does not require any bungy cord by guests. We do have full time on site management and they are always happy to help if the stone for some reason has been removed or indeed any other problems, we are here to help.

Please do dome again and thank you for deciding to stay with us and your kind review and feedback.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Peaceful location and clean facilities despite the muddy surroundings

Disliked Not much that can be done about this and not the owners fault but due to all the rain recently, but the ground was very soft and muddy, nearly got my van stuck

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Plenty of space, lovely warm and clean facilities, helpful owners. After such heavy rain it’s no surprise that some areas of the field were wet. The owners had mesh down on the worst parts and were forthcoming with offers of help in the unlikely event we got stuck (which weren’t needed).

Excellent site, but beware it gets soggy underfoot in wet conditions

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Spacious, clean, good value

Disliked We were unlucky to stay after a wet spell and became stuck in the field. This is a field and entrance was deeply entrenched grooves. The site will be wonderful once the ground dries out.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Larger pitches available, nice and clean toilet facilities, quiet site but family friendly. Showers were nice and warm, level pitches.

Disliked In wet weather the lower down pitches are hard to drive in, with some vans getting stuck and needed to be pushed out, by day 2 the field was getting mucky with tracks and ruining small areas, maybe some matts/sheeting in wetter conditions may help? Or allow vans to use the usual allocated higher up pitches? Just a small seasonal issue but wouldnt put us off returning

Local attractions

Hikers can soon be out on the Monsal Trail (10 minutes’ drive), which offers spectacular views over Monsal Dale and the viaduct at Monsal Head. Kids will have fun crossing the stepping stones at Chee Dale (20 minutes), where you can all follow the River Wye through its limestone gorge. Alternatively, families may prefer to spend the day on cable-car rides at the Heights of Abraham (35 minutes), take vintage vehicle jaunts from Crich Tramway Village or enjoy dinosaur trails and adventure golf at Gulliver’s Kingdom (both 40 minutes). Peak District National Park culture vultures among you? As well as a farmyard where kids can meet the animals, stately Chatsworth House (20 minutes) is set in Capability Brown-designed parkland and has a fantastic art collection, while largely 12th-century Haddon Hall (25 minutes) is open for tours of its vaulted banqueting hall and formal Elizabethan gardens. The infamous ‘plague village’ of Eyam (five minutes’ drive) is packed with pretty stone cottages and cute tearooms, and there’s a craft centre at the Jacobean-era Eyam Hall. A former spa town, Buxton (25 minutes) has a lively cultural scene and an acclaimed opera house; book ahead for tickets.
