  • Simple grass pitches at a Buckinghamshire farm close to Winslow
  • Waddesdon Manor and Buckinghamshire Railway Centre 10 minutes' drive
  • Next door to a farm and wildlife park with farm shop
‘We have very little to offer our guests’ say the owners of Relax InTentCity… and really that’s the great selling point of the place. Sometimes, ‘very little’ is exactly what you need – and the simple, fuss-free pitches at this rural Buckinghamshire site make a fabulous place to unplug from modern life and appreciate the natural world. Aiming to give guests a real sense of fresh air and freedom, the owners of this farm site between Bicester and Aylesbury have kept the offerings minimal, sticking to just the essentials of toilets, showers and a washing-up area. In general the atmosphere here is properly laidback, with dogs welcome, barbecues allowed and guests encouraged to pick their own pitch. There’s plenty of space to choose from, as well – so you’ll be able to set your pitch up just as you want it (including bringing your car onto the pitch) and shouldn’t feel hemmed in at all. Simply chilling out, taking in the fresh air and feeling the grass under your feet might well fill a fair amount of your time here – but there’s plenty to keep you occupied nearby for days out as well. The options start just next door at Hogshaw Farm and Wildlife Park, and continue with the likes of Bletchley Park, Waddesdon Manor and the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre. On a more practical front, it’s a 10-minute drive to the local town of Winslow for convenience stores, pubs and takeaways; another food pub is about three miles away if you’d like to eat out close to base.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Nice toilet/shower facilities Friendly staff Not a farm dealing with animals (important if your vegan) Would of been peaceful if not for the farmer working till early hours

Disliked: When we turned up looked a bit dodgy, driving through the farm outbuildings and piles of stuff Feel there could be a slightly more welcoming entrance Was expensive for what it was, £20 a night for a tent in a field seems a bit much (only just started camping though so maybe this is standard) Farmer working at 1am keeping us awake wasn’t too impressed The view is electrical pylons on one side and the metal containers the other Was pretty hard to find with the postcode and the what 3 words Was ok for a night but wouldn’t come back

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: The huge amount of space allowing you to pitch up where suited. Amenities were basic but just what any camper needed. Fresh water, washing up facilities, clean and full toilet facilities (1 shower, 2 toilets) and a small area for toilet waste. A nice additional unexpected extra was some outdoor toys that our children ranging from 1 to 14 enjoyed.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: A wonderfully peaceful site the night we stayed. Very simple with just the basics - but the basics are fine - toilets and a good shower. The camping field has a beautiful row of trees along the edge and it was a very attractive place to stay.

Disliked: Part of a working farm and so the route to get to the site goes through a very unattractive area filled with machinery, containers and other stuff.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Great communication from friendly owners - made it easy to find and set-up. Location really quiet and enough people there to feel safe but not overcrowded at all. Toilets and shower very clean and well-supplied. Very reasonably priced. Have to use code to enter site so felt safe. Was perfect for us. Also supplied toys for kids to use if you go as a family.

Disliked: Nothing!

Local attractions

If you’ve got kids to entertain, well, how handy is it to have a family attraction just next door? ‘Very handy indeed’ is the answer – especially when it’s something as good as Hogshaw Farm & Wildlife Park, where you can meet all sorts of animals at the farm barn and wildlife zone, follow a nature trail and let the kids charge about at the play area (with go karts and a giant jumping pillow). There’s a farm shop here too for some tasty eats back to take away. Another good visit for all the family is Bletchley Park (25 minutes’ drive), home of the famed World War II codebreakers. Just next door is the National Museum of Computing, making a good two-centre day out for those interested in the history of tech. There’s more heritage at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre (10 minutes), where you can ride the miniature train, see vintage trains and follow a circular walking trail. For something that’s very much alive and well, walk around the gorgeous gardens at Waddesdon Manor (10 minutes) before taking a tour of the grand house itself.
