Liked: A wonderful, peaceful site! We loved the ethos of the farm, the amazing amounts of space, the enchanting (and hot) hedgerow shower, the quiet contemplation seat, the swing bench and the beautiful barns. It’s such a great spot we had no desire to do anything else except be there. A perfect weekend break. Thank you Tony!

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campervan campsite
Liked: We enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the site and meeting the housekeeper who lives on site as she was such lovely woman who tried her best to helps us in any way she could.
Disliked: The site in our honest opinion is unsuitable for motorhomes. Our reason for saying this is because there is no chemical waste facility, no bins and a very overgrown lane to travel down to get into the farm. The hardstanding pitch which is just concrete outside the barn is overrun with thistles and nettles. The shower facility is either in the hedgerow which we can see would appeal to some people, but not for us, or a completely unusable shower room which is full of pigeon poop due to a hole in the roof which is occupied by pigeons. Thank goodness we had our own shower or we would have had to leave. The farm has unsuitable signage which is an A4 paper nailed to a post and completely not visible from one direction. Also when the wind blew this was folded over and when it rained it was unreadable. The lane on entry to the site is completely overgrown as mentioned above and due to the size of our motorhome which is 7 metres long and 3 metres wide we struggled to drive down. Listening to the brambles scraping the sides of the motorhome which is new was heartbreaking. We mentioned this to the site owner and he did attempt to cut some back. However, this made it worse as the sharp edges of the bushes cut back slightly were causing more damage. We did think about leaving as we were so unhappy with the facilities but we had booked into a nearby National Trust property so we decided to try and stick it out. The lady housekeeper really made a great effort to cut the bushes back to allow us to travel down the lane without sustaining any more damage so we were very grateful for that. The thing that is really shocking is the price you pay which is similar if not more than some premium sites we have stayed on over the years. Its hard to see what you are paying for to be honest as there are really no facilities other than electric and the fresh water. We paid £200 for 5 nights which on reflection is really too high a cost for the site in our opinion. We have to accept some responsibility as the reviews of the site are very similar to our experience and therefore had we of read them we would never have booked. I can see how people camping in tents on the field who don't need electric hook up and are happy to shower in the hedgerow would be fine but the site for motorhomes needs significant improvements before it should be sold as viable.

From the manager: Hello John, many thanks for your review and comments, which are largely very constructive and appreciated. I should add however that the campervan / motorhome pitch was never advertised as 'fully serviced' with a chemical waste facility, and it is clearly stated that rubbish should be taken away with you. Furthermore the stables shower room is not something that is prepared and offered to campers, who have use of the hedgerow shower, which I showed you. Regarding the price, this includes 4 people staying in a campervan / motorhome, which I can see might not be economical for 2 people staying for a longer period. I will admit that I did wonder whether the farm is suitable for motorhomes, and having tried it for a short period, there were initially some very good (10*) reviews from people staying in motorhomes (including one who called it their best camping experience in 10 years), so I continued with it. But your experience as well as that of two other motorhome owners who recently stayed at the farm, has made me realise that they are indeed not suitable, due to their size, and so this is no longer offered as an option. Campervans are however still welcome, as they are smaller and can access the beautiful and wild landscape which is described. I have also kept one electric hook-up for a campervan with sole use of the paddock near the barn. I am glad you appreciated the peace and tranquility of the farm, sorry that it was not suitable for your needs. Best wishes, Tony

From the manager: Hello, I am glad that your dogs appreciated the farm and meadow. You never said what you disliked, but I was available during your stay to answer any questions or concerns. Please note that there are no longer any pitch types for motorhomes at the farm, but smaller campervans are fine as they can access the wild and peaceful landscape as described. Sorry that the farm was not suitable for your needs. Best wishes, Tony
