Unpowered grass site
Liked Bar on site, good size kids park, close to the beach.
Disliked We had a mixed experience. We asked for two pitched together by email and turned out they were opposite. We had a very loud family playing loud music all evening. I tried to contact the out of office house keeping but no one answered. The toilets and showers were blocked (presumably some kids being stupid).
I think this site attracts older families and with the bar on site, it seems most will get merry and have no awareness of tidiness or noise.

Powered grass site
Liked We were pleased with our stay at Heathland Beach during August. Understandably it was busy for the summer holidays. It’s a simple site with two kids parks and a small pool. We spent most days off site, and used the onsite facilities around this which worked well. We’d have struggled to stay onsite all day as there’s limited entertainment. The site is clean, laid out well and the staff were friendly.
The site has recently been taken over by new owners (July 2025) and the staff were unsure about the changes the come (such as rebooking swimming)
Disliked The showers aren’t the best design as there’s four cubicles (shower and toilet) as a wet room. Thankfully they weren’t always occupied. I can understand other reviews about the showers being outdated. They’re simple enough and work fine.

Unpowered grass tent site
Liked We found the location of the campsite easy to find. Close to Canterbury city and beaches. The shower block was clean and tidy. The composting toilets were some of the more clean and well kept ones I’ve used. Alex has tended to the site nicely with quirky swings, reading area and look out point.
Disliked Even arriving at 3pm the campsite was already busy. The field is quite small and tents were close together. Unfortunately we were near two noisy families which spoiled our stay but the other campers were quieter.
Alex met us on arrival and explained we can’t drive on the field which was a huge challenge for us with a 1 year old, having to carry each item back and forth was frustrating. I can understand not allowing cars to park next to pitches (as there is a car park) but I would expect to be allowed to drive to my pitch, unload then leave.
We found that a few campers did drive onto the field during the morning to load before leaving.
On a quieter weekend I would recommend if you’re willing to carry your kit onto the site. There is a trolly shared amongst the campers if you’re lucky to get a turn. As the site is small there’s little privacy with campers facing one another. We turned our tent round to face the trees to give us a sense of having our own space.

Rushlake Green, East Sussex, England
Unpowered grass tent site
Liked We enjoyed our stay at this campsite as it’s set in wonderful surroundings with the pitches around a lake/large pond. There is modern shower and toilet facilities as well as communal fridge & freezer which was super helpful. However, please note, the campsite pitches are 3 fields away from the toilets and running water. We used the car every time we went to the loo!
I would recommend for Carol to have a smaller toilet block in the camping field with running water.
Carol is a friendly host and explained everything well. The campsite is divided into pitches, but it is possible to camp further away from others. Now we’ve been, we’d set up much further from the lake to have a little more quiet. I would recommend and would visit again (now we know what to expect!)
Disliked Distance camping from toilets/shower
Camping close to others
Portaloos were unclean (I believe they were scheduled to be cleaned)
