Immerse yourself in the Idaho countryside with a stay at Allicins Ranch – this is a place where you’ll be able to settle in for a real rural experience, whether you go for the slow life or get stuck into various activities.
Pitches here are part of a small organic farm that focuses on garlic but also grows all sorts of seasonal fruits and veggies for sale at the local farmers’ market. The neighbours are another organic farm and a honey bee farm, so you can be sure of rural views all around. Tempted to have a go at the farming life? You’re welcome to volunteer and learn a bit while you’re staying here (although you’re equally welcome to put your feet up in a hammock…)
Beyond the farms are the stunning landscapes of the Kootenai Valley – the farm itself sits on 14 acres looking down over the river, with the Kootenai National Forest all around. That location means you’ll have access to some of the best hiking, biking and rafting areas the inland northwest has to offer, with plenty of lakes, waterfalls and little towns to keep you busy for some time. And if that’s not enough, you can get to the Canadian border with a 45-minute drive – and there’s certainly much to do beyond that…
This is a working farm, so you’ll need to be aware that there will be work going on, but it’s also a very peaceful place. Outhouses have compost toilets for guests, and there’s a pond with a rope swing where you can cool off in summer. The local town, Moyle Springs, is 15 minutes’ drive away for supplies from the convenience store.
