One look at the swimming lake at Glamping Kolpa Resort and it’s quite possible you’ll want to dive straight in… and you can do exactly that, because here you’ll be staying in well-equipped glamping units that need only the bare minimum of effort to get settled in. This stylish glamping site is in the White Carniola area of south-eastern Slovenia, and it’s aimed at holidaymakers who’d really like to surround themselves with nature. The owners were inspired by the destination’s wildlife-rich diversity when building the accommodation, so it all blends in well with the surroundings. At the heart of it all is a natural lake where guests can take a dip or simply settle at the water’s edge for drinks and picnics. Inside the accommodation is just as lovely as outside… each unit has been kitted out with proper beds, an ensuite bathroom and a kitchen, plus useful things like heating and wifi access. Outdoor seating is provided too, so you can relax out in the fresh air and soak up the scenery. And there are plenty more ways to take in the landscapes of this lovely area, too – the Kolpa river is a short walk away and you can hire kayaks or paddleboards on site for water-based adventures or cross over to see what’s going on in Croatia on the other side. Hiking and bike trails aplenty run through the surrounding countryside, and other activities in the area include horse riding, fishing, wine tasting and cooking classes. The site is just outside the tiny village of Krasinec, which has a bus stop and restaurant; the slightly larger Gradac is about five minutes’ drive away.

Local attractions

This is a particularly scenic area, and much of the enjoyment comes from simply taking walks or bike rides on local trails, or heading out for horse riding, fishing and watersports. Even if this sort of thing is your main focus, it’s worth making a little bit of time for an outing to Gradac Castle (five minutes’ drive), which has had quite the colourful history since it was built in the 14th century. Other easy nearby trips include the art-filled Galerija Kambič museum (10 minutes), wine tasting at Vinska Klet Metlika (10 minutes) or a stroll through the well-preserved streets of Pusti Gradec (25 minutes). Heading over the border into Croatia opens up even more options, including Ozalj Castle (half an hour), Dubovac Castle (40 minutes) or a day in Karlovac (40 minutes), which has an aquarium and a war museum as well as being a hub for activities like whitewater rafting.

Liked Prachtige plek; goed verzorgde kleine camping met luxe tent. Schoon en goed onderhouden. De beheerder regelt wat je nodig hebt, verhuurt fietsen, brengt extra handdoeken, ...etc. Beheerder geeft tips voor lokale restaurants, fiets- en wandelroutes, wijst plekken om te zwemmen in de rivier.

Disliked De muggen .... We hebben onder een klamboe geslapen.
