Camping La Agop

The campsite is handily located for exploring the Danube Delta. You can embark on boat trips from Tulcea (40 minutes’ drive) to Letea National Forest for hikes through woodland to ever-shifting sand dunes – keep an eye out for the wild horses while you walk. Cruises also head for Sulina on the Black Sea, where you can visit the Orthodox church and landmark lighthouse before having a dip in the sea. Boats also explore the lakeland waterways from Murighiol (five minutes). There are several options to choose from; you can go birdwatching to spot pelican and swan colonies nesting in the reed beds as you navigate narrow canals, or perhaps choose a longer cruise that incorporates traditional fish dishes cooked for you by local residents. If you prefer to explore on dry land, the partly excavated Halmyris Citadel (10 minutes) is a work in progress but has revealed ancient crypts covered in faded frescoes as well as the footprint of former fortifications.
