Chasing a beach holiday combined with a helping of history and culture? You may well hit the jackpot with a stay at Camping des Oiseaux, 10 minutes’ drive from Le Crotoy beach on Picardy’s Baie de Somme coastline, and five minutes from the medieval town of Rue, with its landmark belfry, chapels and museum. Shaded by pine trees, the site is family run, welcoming and peaceful, with spacious, neatly landscaped pitches lined with hedges for extra privacy. Head out sightseeing, or simply stay put on site and entertain yourselves there. After all, there’s certainly plenty going on. The heated indoor swimming pool opens from April to November, or you can head for the multisports ground to have a run around or kick about with a ball. Play competitive games of pétanque on one of five courts, or retreat to the fishing lake for a quiet hour or so casting for carp or zander. Keep an eye on the kids as they make a beeline for the bouncy castle (high season only) and playground, or take them to meet the friendly ponies (trekking is also available). Still looking for more activities? Play table tennis, billiards or have a game of darts… If that’s not enough, summer evenings see organised entertainment, dance nights and themed dinners for all the family in the restaurant-bar.

Cosy park, plenty of room on flat sites. Heated pool's a winner for families. Staff are ace, countryside's peaceful for rides & walks. Mostly clean, but toilets/showers are a bit tired and sometimes chilly. Roads & sites can be tight.

Liked La taille de l’emplacement, la gentillesse et bonne humeur de Teddy, le calme, le prix abordable.

Disliked L’organisation pour les jetons de douche payante (blâmer les propriétaires n’est pas une solution et le clients n’a pas à le savoir), pas de petite épicerie ou café ouvert (ouvert a partir de 18h..)

Liked C’est un camping familial, nous y avons passé deux nuits avec notre fille de six ans. Le camping en lui-même est vraiment sympathique, ceux qui nous ont accueilli sont très agréables, rigolo !
On a adoré la piscine la structure gonflable et le parc de jeux. Il y a également des animaux au fond du camping, ce qui est vraiment top !!!
On a aussi aimé les douches qui sont extrêmement propres, les toilettes également. C’est un système de jeton avec les douches, un jeton à 0,50 € égal sept minutes de douche, ce qui en réalité est long sachez le ! Car on avait le temps de faire passer ma fille avant et moi juste après

Disliked Le système de jeton, car il n’y avait pas assez de jeton, mais ils se sont adaptés et ont installé un système dès le lendemain où on peut mettre des pièces de 0,50 €.
Le seul petit point négatif, c’est l’emplacement dans le sens où il n’y a rien à faire dans le village. Mais c’est vraiment pour mettre un truc n’est pas aimer. Sinon vraiment tout était parfait.

Liked It was a good base to go to surrounding areas like St Valery and Crotoy .
The other end of the site was lovely and open would have preferred to be on those pitches 2 were given to 2 bikers with tents when we were there

Disliked Was nowhere to walk to .was told wrong could pick our pitch on arrival ,but was given a pitch ,it was boggy and muddy the hedges hadn't been cut and was full of dried autumn leaves . Didn't appreciate a gentleman coming out of the showers and getting dressed when I was using the hand drier

Liked Lovely quiet site and spaced pitches, lovely heated pool and brilliant for children’s play area and bouncy castle. Close to shops, restaurants and fuel.

Disliked On site price for WiFi, very expensive if required.
It would be great if there was a multilingual translator on site for ease of communicating.

For a day on the beach, Fort-Mahon-Plage (15 minutes’ drive) attracts active families keen to try sand yachting or dinghy sailing, while younger kids can go beachcombing and make sandcastles at Plage de Quend (20 minutes), or play hide and seek in the dunes. If you’ve spent time chilling on Le Crotoy beach (10 minutes), wind up your day by ordering moules-frites and Picardy cider at one of the seafront restaurants. Take binoculars to Park Marquenterre (15 minutes) to see thousands of wading birds (plus wild horses) amid the marsh, dune and forest landscapes, or follow the waymarked Dune Walk of Authie (15 minutes), keeping your eyes open for wild deer, herons and toads on the way. Turning inland, the 15th-century UNESCO-listed belfry in Rue (five minutes) is open for guided tours and has views to the Baie de Somme from its parapet. For other landmarks in this pretty half-timbered town, follow the marked trail to the Holy Spirit and Hospice chapels, or pay a call to the World War I planes in the Musée des Frères Caudron.
