Peaceful, green and spectacularly scenic... Camping Château du Gandspette is a quiet countryside site set among the grounds of a 19th-century château, across 11 hectares of bloom-filled wooded parkland in the Caps et Marais d'Opale Natural Regional Park. The Calais and Dunkirk channel crossings are 35 minutes' drive away. This park’s pleasant woodland setting makes for a pristinely peaceful stay: the site has spacious and landscaped pitches surrounded by mature trees, loads of green space and lots of blooms and hedges. Leisurewise, there are two outdoor pools (one heated), ping pong tables and tennis courts, as well as a multisports area and an outdoor gym; activities run in high season too. Food is well sorted at the site’s well-appointed summer bar and restaurant, serving grilled meats and regional specialities such as Flemish carbonnade and potjevleesch, and at the snack bar for pizza and fries to eat in or take away. The bar and its viewsome terrace is where you can sink a drink or two (while watching major sports fixtures, if that’s your leisurely bent). And if the scenery isn’t enough to rouse you from your slumber? Freshly baked bread is on sale every summer morn.

  • The campground/park does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.
  • The outdoor swimming pool is open between 15/05 and 15/09 (subject to weather conditions).
  • The restaurant is open between 30/04 and 15/09.
  • Reception is unmanned after 8 p.m.. Please inform the campground while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time so that the team can provide information about your unit/site.
  • Video games are available between 1 July and 30 August. The bakery is open every day from 8am to 9am from mid-May to mid-September. The bar is open between 3pm and 11pm during high season, and from 6pm to 9pm the rest of the year.

This cracker of a campsite's a ripper – clean, quiet, and plenty of room on the sites. Top-notch facilities with pools and playgrounds, and the staff are legends. Perfect spot for a ferry to the UK, though the Wi-Fi can be a bit dodgy and the restaurant closes early.

Liked Lovely quiet camp site close to the euro tunnel. Perfect for just starting out an adventurer across Europe or returning back to the UK. The site is family run and well kept. The site has two very kept pools, these are not heated but perfect temperature during the heat wave. A lovely addition was the fresh pastry's and bread from a local bakery being sold in the morning (Bring cash). Would 100% recommend to everyone.

Liked The site was brill as always and the pool was great during the hot day.

Disliked I was a little disappointed in the carbonnade flammable. It was a tasty but watery. Before it has been really thick.

Liked Great reception, we arrived earlier than check in time and they allowed us to go set up. Lovely, quiet, clean & ample pitch. Great services, again very clean. Bar/restaurant has a decent selection of food & drink at very reasonable prices. All in all a fantastic place to stay

The region is well served by road, rail and sea connections, including services such as the Eurostar and several from major Channel maritime operators. Camping Château du Gandspette is 45 minutes’ drive from the Calais-Fréthun high-speed rail international station too, making one-hour journeys to London, 30-minute journeys to Lille and two-hour journeys to Brussels and Paris a cinch. The site’s Caps et Marais d'Opale Natural Regional Park setting is tiptop for hikes and bike rides around the area, with the GR 128 hiking trail (between Wissant in France and Gand in Belgium) within easy reach. Horse riding, fishing and golf are available in Ruminghem and St Omer, and for kid-friendly days out, bowling, go-karting and theme parks such as Dennlys Parc at Dennebroeucq and Plopsaland de Panne in Belgium are all within an hour’s drive. History buffs can take a trip to the Eperlecques Blockhouse, a kilometre from base, and the La Coupole bunker complex (aka the St Omer Dome) is less than 20 minutes’ drive away. Other war memorial sites and points of interest well worth a trip to include the Fortress of Mimoyecques, the 1939-1945 Museum at Ambleteuse, the Memorial Museum at Calais, the Atlantic Wall Museum in Audinghen and the Memorial Museum at Dunkirk.
