Unpowered forest floor tent site

Liked Great location, rustic yet offering all the necessary amenities to have a comfortable stay. Located on a beautiful mountainside in a forested setting, you are part of the natural environment surrounding you, undisturbed by others or the usual mayhem of daily life. I was booked to stay on a campsite- of which there are only a few on site, however upon seeing the cabin was available, and and very reasonably priced, stayed there Instead - perched on a hillside, that was very comfortable with running water, electric and gas provided. Only need to bring food and personal items as there is drinking water on site a short walk away. There is a solar shower and composting toilet in keeping with their eco-minded environment. The hosts Max & Elise were great and very accommodating, although out of sight unless called, responded immediately to any request. Plenty to explore nearby with local hiking, swimming and all types of outdoor activities a short car ride away, there is a small town with a shop only 15 minutes down the main road by car.

Local attractions

Once you’ve warmed up with a stroll around the site’s own footpaths, you can head out to hike along one of the three trails that leave from the site (including a very easy one) or explore one of the 60 or so trails around Vabre. All sorts of scenic views await, including waterfalls and green hills. The most famed views around here, though, are at the Sidobre (20 minutes’ drive). The huge stones at this place (said to be the largest granite plateau in Europe) are hugely impressive, and intriguing too. How did they end up perched on top of each other like this? Legend has it they were thrown there by the gods… For other outings nearby, there’s a tennis court and swimming pool in the village, or you could set off to meet the big cats at The Three Valleys Zoo (20 minutes). There’s also a chance to learn about the big skies above at Planète Tarn (20 minutes), which offers planetarium shows, workshops and night hikes (book your activities here in advance).
