Lodge surrounded by greenery

  • Quiet Aquitaine holiday park 10 minutes’ drive from Soulac-sur-Mer
  • Médoc vineyards 45 minutes’ drive and Bordeaux 90 minutes
  • Spacious open-plan lodges with private terraces and barbecues
Set 10 minutes’ drive from vibrant, oceanside Soulac-sur-Mer between Aquitaine’s Gironde estuary and the Atlantic Ocean, Le Clos des Soulacaises is a peaceful, prettily landscaped site with lodges set among greenery. Each unit has a fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer, coffeemaker and kettle, as well as a spacious dining and living area with a flatscreen TV. The modern bathrooms each have a large shower and toilets are separate. Hairdryers are provided, but you’ll need to bring your own bedding and towels. You can dine outside on your private decking, which is furnished with deckchairs and parasols to guard against the heat of the sun. Electric barbecues come as part of the deal too. The park is secured by remote-controlled gates, and there is no reception on site; check-ins are made using a key box. It really is a quiet spot, so if you’re looking for swimming pools and evening entertainment on site, this is not the place for you.

Local attractions

If you fancy an urban day out, Bordeaux (90 minutes’ drive) is the city to head for. Take in classic sights like the Gothic-style Basilique Saint-Michel and the Grosse Cloche bell tower, and then take in some more contemporary attractions… Like the immersive tour of La Cité du Vin, which ends with wine tastings, or hanging out with a cool crowd at Darwin Eco-système, a vast plaza where you can rifle through vintage shops and potter around wine bars. Any wine buffs can also visit Médoc vineyards like Château du Taillan (about an hour) and Château Pichon Baron (45 minutes), while gourmets will appreciate the restaurants serving local oysters to be found in Soulac-sur-Mer (10 minutes). If days at the beach are what you’re after, Soulac has several long sandy stretches where you can go swimming (supervised in summer, Amélie Beach is best for families), surfing and paddleboarding. As well as taking boat cruises along the coast or going sea fishing, you can also cycle past exotic mansions on the oceanfront promenade or pedal sections of La Vélodyssée long-distance bike ride around coastal Aquitaine.
