  • Quiet and scenic Patagonia site with river access and volcano views
  • A 25-minute drive to Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park
  • Easy access from V69 main road; bar, food shop and barbecues on site
With heaps of open space and fabulous scenery, Chilean Patagonia is a wonderful place to chill out for a few days – and that’s particularly true if you're staying at Patagonfox. This quiet site is on the banks of the Petrohué river and has gorgeous views across peaceful countryside to the nearby Osorno and Calbuco volcanoes, and yet it's also very easily accessed directly from the V69 main road. All of the scenery but none of the stress of negotiating narrow winding roads – that’s a real win-win on the location front. Of course, with landscapes like this all around, you're unlikely to want to stay put on site for your whole stay. Lakes, waterfalls, rivers and the attractions of the Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park all await nearby, along with outdoor activities including trekking, horse riding, rafting and fishing (this last one you can do in the river by the site, in fact). Your base for exploring all of this is a spacious site with flat pitches among trees for shade and shelter, and all with access to electricity and wifi. On-site amenities include a launderette, a washing-up area and a chemical disposal point as well as bathroom facilities. Eating and drinking should be easily sorted too, as the site has a picnic area, barbecue grills and a food shop along with a bar and a coffee shop. For other supplies, you'll need to head to nearby towns like Ensenada or Cochamó (both 20 minutes' drive). For extra peace of mind, this site has 24-hour staff, security cameras and fire protection systems so it’s all as safe as can be.

Local attractions

With the river right by your pitch, you might like to start with some fishing or a swim. For other watery experiences, take a walk around the Petrohué Waterfalls (25 minutes' drive) or soak in the warm waters of Termas Cochamó (15 minutes). Site staff can also help you organise rafting trips – or, if you'd rather stay on dry land, horse riding outings. If you're sticking to touring on foot, you should certainly make a beeline for Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park (25 minutes) – Chile’s first national park and still one of its best. There are several excellent trails here through forest areas and volcanic scenery, with plenty of plants and animals to spot along the way. Elsewhere nearby you might like to take a walk by Lake Llanquihue (20 minutes) or head to Lake Todos Los Santos (35 minutes), where you can take a ferry to Peulla for onward travel into Argentina. With its German-style architecture and colourful Museo Pablo Fierro, Puerto Varas (an hour and 10 minutes) is also worth a visit.
