Liked: If your looking for a little haven you will not fall short at Thorny Bush. Set deep in the Pembrokeshire countryside is this lovely site with fantastic views across the valley. With only 2 pitches it creates a more personal experience and if you book up both like we did you have the whole place to yourself to create your home for the week. There is electric hook up for both pitches and this more than adequate for your needs. Both pitches are a good size and have a separate toilet for each one. Toilet and showers are little wooden shacks just up from the pitches. If your thinking a wooden shack is not your thing, think again. The shower has a proper shower base and is extremely clean (no shower shoes needed) and the toilets are also sparkling and I love the added touch of vinyl on the floor to make it feel more like a bathroom. Huge sink round the back with draining boards on both sides is perfect for washing dishes. The site has dark skies on a clear night and there is no noise pollution either unless you include the noise from Cluckingham Palace and the sites resident hen population who provide fresh eggs every morning in the honesty shop on site. Also sold is a fantastic selection on jams and chutneys along with fresh veg which has been grown all over the site. The host Vicki is lovely, always made sure we had everything we needed and even provided me with some of her fresh mint which she had grown on the site. Vicki's family also live on site and are very friendly and make you feel like your part of the family. Last but not least we need to give a special mention to Sid the dog who came to say good morning everyday. Can't wait to book up again.

Liked: Beautiful peaceful and scenic campsite with lots of lovely touches. Having your own (very clean) toilet assigned to your pitch and right by is a game changer. Amazing hosts who are there when you need them but otherwise leave you to it. Our 7 year old son loved exploring the fields and woods and all the space to play football. We all loved Sid the dog and the chickens who are fabulous neighbours. Would absolutely recommend and we will definitely return soon.

Disliked: Nothing at all.

Liked: The camp site was great. Just two pitches with your own toilet for each pitch and a shower as well as sink around the back to do your washing up. Vicki has an honesty shop there and the hens you see to the left of the two pitches lay the most amazing eggs. You can also get jams and marmalade. We stayed for a week and had plenty to do in the vicinity. There were a number of local beaches, with lovely sand and a couple had small caves and rock pools to explore. We also visited dinosaur world, which for the six of us was about £90 to get into (our 2yo was free) but the rides were really good and included VR for the older kids as well as go karts, mini hover crafts and ride on triceratops (two of them and the only thing you had to pay for when you got in at £1 a ride). We had a day at Pembroke Castle, where my 11yo loved the tour so much she went around it twice. There is a cave under the castle where they have found evidence of residence 40,000 years ago. Really couldn’t fault anything will certainly be going back to Thorny Bush in the future.

Liked: Lovely open pitch with countryside views and only 1 neighbour. Fantastic that each pitch has it's own plumbed in toilet, which is conveniently situated close by! The shower was awesome; spacious cubicle with shelving, mirrors and dry hanging space. Adjustable shower head and heat levels to suit all preferences. Fairy lights dotted around were a sweet extra touch but there was already plenty of solar censored lighting to guide you at night. Nice big washing up sink area, with it's own boiler so plenty of hot water available. Location was convenient to Saundersfoot and Narberth, with good grocery shops nearby. Make sure you heed the entry instructions to the site, as the slope on the drive is too steep for most vehicles from the wrong direction. Not an issue at all as long as you enter the site the right way. Super on site shop with home made chutneys and free range eggs - literally less than 0.1 eco-miles to your plate! Owners were friendly and welcoming, keen to build their mini campsite business in a positive and highly professional way. We wish them well!

The Hive cabin (four person)

Liked: Amazing location so peaceful & beautiful. Lovely views & clear skies at night due to low light pollution. Thoughtful host & good information provided in the welcome book on local restaurants/takeaways. We stayed in The Hive plenty of logs for the lovely fire. Very dog friendly allowed 3 dogs to come along with no extra charge, lots of blankets for them to feel at home. Break was especially needed after having a tough few days prior to this getaway losing our beloved old dog whom we’d planned this laid back trip especially for spending quality time with him & our other 2 dogs.

The Hive cabin (four person)

Liked: The hive is a stunning cabin, I orginally travelled down with two friends and stayed the night and loved the place that much, I travelled back two days later for a solo trip with my dog, it really is an amazing set up they have here. A fenced off garden so that my dog could roam, further fields and forrestry you are free to explore as well. Fresh milk, eggs and logs for the wood burner were left out for us on arrival. I'm already looking to book my return visit here and have passed the details over to friends and family members.

Liked: Lovely and peaceful. Only 2 pitches with a well presented, and clean toilet each. Shower was lovely and hot. Sink area for dish washing. Take a torch as you will need it when it’s dark. Vicky was super lovely and welcoming. Chicken coop near pitch so be mindful if you have a dog and take a tether. Our Cocker Spaniel was very taken with the chickens, spent hours of an evening staring at them in frustration 😂 Enjoyed our stay. The location was great for beaches. Everything just 15-20 mins away in the car.

Disliked: Not to dislike but FYI The approaching lane is very narrow and turning in is quite steep but we managed fine in a camper-van. Not sure how difficult it would be with a large motor home.

Local attractions

What could be on the itinerary here? Well, aside from excellent Pembrokeshire coastal walks, beaches and watersports, there’s plenty to occupy your time. For example, you might want to put your team’s brainpower to the test with escape rooms such as those at Tenby's Great Escape (15 minutes’ drive). For an active challenge, there are watersports centres around the coast, plus wakeboarding, an aqua park and bouldering at Wild Lakes Wales (15 minutes). Rollercoasters are on the menu at Oakwood Theme Park (15 minutes), while those of you who’d like to give paintballing, archery or miniature golf a try might also like Heatherton World of Activities (15 minutes). As well as huge dinosaur figurines, Dinosaur Park (15 minutes) has go-karting activities and adventure playgrounds. Animals are part of the attraction at Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (10 minutes) or the walking safari at Manor Wildlife Park (15 minutes). For a visit to a medieval castle (and perhaps a guided tour behind the walls), check out Pembroke Castle (25 minutes).
