What customers say

Campers rave about Happy Jake's spacious, level sites, clean facilities & friendly staff. It's praised for its quiet spot near dog walks & coastal paths. Some found it pricey, with occasional noise, hot water, or cleaning hiccups, plus a less-than-stellar entrance & poor amenity lighting.

Power optional grass caravan site

Liked plenty of space

Disliked facilities dirty and showers on one setting which was luke warm. Most of the bins in bathrooms and toilet full most of the time and distinct lack of toilet paper on a number of occasions.
Facilities quite a distance for some pitches ie 400yds
A lot of signage in facilities to do this that and the other.

From the manager: Oh dear! We are sorry that this is how you viewed us.

I can assure you that the toilet roll is topped up on regular ocassions throughout the day. During your visit there was always toilet roll in the holders. The 2nd roll had not been released from inside the dispenser withn the small handle inside which lets it drop.

The bins can get full when we are busy so sorry about that.

The facilities can get very busy. Dirty seems somewhat harsh bearing in mind that most of our other reviews state how clean they are. We do ask our visitors to leave the facilities as they would wish to find it. But, this does not always happen. On busy mornings it can be difficult to acces the showers and toilets to check on them and tidy up if messy.

The showers are set but heavy use can cause the temerature to drop. At certain times the water is on permanent to try and avoid this. We are sorry this was an issue for you.

We have limited caravan pitch availability close to the shower facility but if there is a personal need to be close we do try and facilitate it. Of course this can be difficult when pitches are already booked.

We are very sorry you did'nt enjoy your stay with us.

Power optional grass caravan site

Liked Spacious, quiet, level pitch with great dog walking area. Good facilities, showers nice and warm, with plenty of loos which included 3 ply toilet paper!!!

Disliked A little bit of a walk to get to the toilet block, as we were on the edge of the camp, otherwise no moans about this place.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your great comments.

It can be a bit of a walk from the very bottom of the site.

Glad you enjoyed your stay.

Unpowered grass campervan or tent site

Liked The warm welcoming by Mandy, the natural surrounding.

Disliked Tha place has a lot of potential. Nevertheless, the looks of it seems not well maintenanced. The toilet and shower rooms are comfortable but not tidy - a broken chair, empty ads stand, bleach containers exposed on the ground (what if there are young children?), lack of toilet rolls...
Lawn mower anybody?

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review.

So pleased you were happy with the greeting. We try to catch up with our visitors as soon as possible if they have arrived and made there way to their pitch. The welcome board will help with pitch location so that the pitch can be accessed without waiting for someone.

Not sure why the shower rooms were not tidy. When visited in the morning all seemed ok and the toilet rolls were fine. Perhaps you did not reralise that the holder has another roll up inside which is released by pulling the handle inside forward.

The cleaning sprays have been popular with our customers but we take note of your comment and have removed the bleach container.

The grass! As it was very dry it was left a little longer as it was being bleached by the sun. We do indeed have a mower which is used regularly unless for some reason it has had a breakdown. Unfortunately we do not have a secondary mower for these instances.

Perhaps if you had been visiting for a little longer (only 1 day) you would have seen the mower working.

Enjoy the rest of your trip.

Local attractions

Surf, canter, paintball, go-kart or have a coastal path amble along the nearby Glamorgan Heritage Coast, running for 14 miles from Porthcawl to Aberthaw (paintballing and go-karting along clifftop paths not recommended). There’s so much to see on this part of coast: after the ruins of 12th-century Ogmore Castle, follow the pathway to the village of Merthyr Mawr, backed by a maze of spectacular sand dunes, over 300 species of flower and the Big Dipper, the biggest sand dune in Europe – bring a sledge (really). Fancy fossil hunting? The nearby town of Llantwit Major is so ancient you can pick up Jurassic fossils on its Collugh beach (which has an Iron Age hill fort too). If you’re a surfer, the Collugh waves are a popular place; also get on board with things by veering west outside the Vale of Glamorgan to Porthcawl in Bridgend. Have another couple of days in Cardiff to see sights such as Cardiff Castle and Llandaff Cathedral, the very fab open-air National History Museum at St Fagans and the National Museum and Gallery of Wales.
