  • Peaceful Eryri wild camping site on the banks of Llyn Dinas Lake
  • A mile and a half from Beddgelert and the Yr Wyddfa Watkin Path
  • On National Trust land with lake access for fishing and swimming
Wild camping isn’t allowed in Eryri National Park (Snowdonia) without getting permission from the landowner – and sometimes that can be tricky to track down if you don’t know where to ask. So here’s a nice simple solution: book a pitch at Gwersyllfa Llyn Dinas Campsite and you’ll get the wild camping experience while being safe in the knowledge that you’re on the right side of the law. With that wild experience also comes a particularly prime location for Eryri camping – right on the banks of Llyn Dinas Lake, at the foot of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), the tallest mountain in Wales. It’s a truly spectacular spot on National Trust land about a mile and a half from Beddgelert, and guests are asked to leave the place as pristine as they found it, taking all rubbish with them and being very careful not to damage the ground with things like barbecues. Wild this place is indeed, so you’ll need to come prepared – there are no toilets, washrooms, drinking water taps or other facilities (although there are picnic tables for your meals). It may feel incredibly remote, but in fact it’s fairly easy to get here as it’s just off the A498 main road. What might you get up to while you’re here? Well, soaking up the scenery for a start, of course – perhaps while swimming or fishing in the lake. There are also heaps of walks around, including trails up to the summit of Yr Wyddfa (the trailhead for the Watkin Path is about a mile and a half away).
