Lots of space
Spacious site with 17 grass pitches. all have wifi and electric hook-up

  • Quiet adults-only rural caravan park
  • In between Wrexham (15 minutes' drive) and Chester (20 minutes)
  • Wifi available; a 20-minute walk to Caergwrle’s pubs and takeaways
A peaceful environment for eyeing up the Welsh hills? You’ve got it at New Farm Caravan Park, an adults-only site set between Wrexham and Chester that doesn’t allow gatherings or parties. Use this serene spot as your base for exploring the local area, including the ruins of the 13th-century Caergwrle Castle (a 15-minute stroll), or wander through the rural landscape up Hope Mountain (55 minutes) and around Alyn Water Country Park (three miles away). Fishing and horse riding are to be had within a mile. If pottering about outdoors isn’t enough to satisfy you unless there’s a pint at the end of the pursuit, amble to one of the local inns in Caergwrle (20 minutes on foot) for a meal and a drink. Takeaways are open in the village too, including a bakery, Indian and Chinese, for bringing back to your spacious pitch, plus there’s also a train station for those travelling on public transport. New Farm has a simple feel – and that’s its appeal – but it does have regularly cleaned toilets and showers. And while kids aren’t allowed, dogs are, so you can usher your four-legged friend around the hotspots of north Wales while staying here.

Power optional grass motorhome site

Liked Nice flat pitches and good location near a lovely riverside cafe. The price each night was very reasonable. It was very quiet and relaxing which was lovely. The owners were very helpful and pleasant.

Disliked No pot wash area which I found a bit odd. Having to pay for electric seemed like a faff, just increase price slightly to take away the effort. Would have preferred to pay before we arrive and not as we were driving off site on our way home.

Power optional grass motorhome site

Liked Dale and Julie, lovely hosts. Adults only site, so very quiet, perfect for our relaxing weekend break. Lots of little added extras like books and dvds to loan. Pay only for electricity you use. We only paid £1:50 for 2.5 days, using fridge, coolbox, lights and tv. If you forget anything, Julie and Dale very happy to help out. We were able to walk to some lovely places from the site. We can't wait to go back.

Liked Easy to find. All as described. Our first time taking our camper van out and it was perfect for this. A quiet, small site with level pitches. Owners polite and friendly.

Liked Lovely welcome on arrival. We were met immediately and directed to our pitch.
Good value for money. Electric is charged separately and for us worked out at £2.50 approx per night.
Walk of 20/30 mins to local village Spar shop, pub and castle ruins.
Another attraction in the area well worth a visit is Park in the Past. Lovely area to walk, sit or take part in water sports on the huge lake. Took us a slow 40 min walk from site but there is a car park.

Power optional grass caravan site

Liked We had a wonderful stay at New farm caravan park. Julie & Dale are lovely people, they both made us feel very welcome & we really appreciated their warm & friendly manner throughout our stay. The site itself is beautifully kept, it has water located at each pitch, of which was really helpful. The on-site facilities were perfect for our needs. Showers & toilets were spotlessly clean & smelt really fresh. The campsite is very dog friendly & has a great dog run field, accessible from the main camping field, that our two small girls really enjoyed letting off steam. The location is perfect for visiting nearby Chester & the surrounding area. We highly recommend this hidden gem & we look forward to revisiting here again in the future.

Local attractions

Amble around Alyn Waters Country Park from the site (less than 10 minutes’ drive), traversing woodland and grassland past a river and into a nature reserve; cyclists might prefer the tracks in Llandegla Forest (25 minutes), which also has a mountain-biking centre, while drivers can see stunning scenery from the Horseshoe Pass (25 minutes). Not far from here is Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (20 minutes), a massive 18-arch stone and cast iron bridge created by Thomas Telford to carry water in 1805. Visit the awe-inspiring structure, then see more ace architecture in urban areas like Wrexham and Chester (15 and 20 minutes away, respectively). The famed Chester Zoo (25 minutes) and racecourse are on the outskirts of the latter city; head into the centre and shop in the chic boutiques as well or stay on the edge of town and browse for bargains in the Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet (half an hour). Further north east from here is the coast, with the sandy beaches of Rhyl 45 minutes’ drive away and the Victorian seaside resort of Llandudno reachable via train from Caergwrle in an hour and 20 minutes.
