‘A little slice of Welsh paradise’ is how the owners describe this site – and a quick look at the pics will give you a pretty good idea why. Appleton Certified Location is in an enviable spot within the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park, at the foot of the Black Mountains and just outside the little village of Tretower. The grass touring pitches at this small site are available for Caravan and Motorhome Club members only, and they’re set up with self-contained tourers in mind (so please note there are no toilet or shower facilities here). As there are only a few pitches, you’ll have very few neighbours – although the chickens do wander around sometimes, and the nosy Hereford cattle are likely to peer over from time to time to see what you’re up to. The views from this site are pretty spectacular, changing through the seasons and particularly fine on a sunny evening thanks to the south-facing aspect. There’s also the chance to spot wildlife, as the site has a meandering tributary to the River Usk – take a walk here and you may catch a glimpse of a passing kingfisher. For longer walks, there are plenty of lanes and bridleways around the site and it’s not far to more challenging trails at Pen y Fan and Sugar Loaf. Access to this site should be nice and easy as it’s just off the A479; it’s nicely screened from the road though, so there’s plenty of peace and privacy. And while it feels pretty rural and remote on site, there are handy shops and pubs five minutes’ drive away in Crickhowell.
