Disliked: The Ghost Town, has to travel out for a bit of life. But that didn’t bother us.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: Brilliant site for a quiet weekend away! Very peaceful. Fantastic facilities, washrooms and kitchen - very clean. Friendly staff. Loved that you can hire a fire pit too, it saves the hassle of getting your own, and fuel etc. It was good value. I can’t really comment on accommodation as we stayed in our own tent, but the pods/caravans looked beautiful. I would definitely recommend, and hope to visit again!

Disliked: There isn’t an on site shop or cafe/pub. There are shops a 3 min drive away, walkable distance if the weather is okay!

Liked: Good tent pitches Amenities are pretty good such as wash station, laundry and toilets. Showers are a little tight but have curtains and clothes stay dry

Disliked: Can get a little noisy with party loving hot-tubbers when the weekend arrives

Powered gravel caravan site

Liked: Location within walking distance of Coldstream and choice of paths to get there. Attractive outlook to the south. Pleasant staff. Well cared for and tidy site.

Disliked: Site trees and shrubs not yet fully matured. Road noise. Another toilet block needed. Why do they need key pad locks on toilet block?

Powered gravel caravan site

Liked: Quiet site with level pitches , friendly staff.

Disliked: Toilet block is too small for the size of the site , showers are tiny - you basically have to stand back in the shower to get out of the cubicle - but they are clean. Waste bins were overflowing when we went to dispose of ours. Watched a woman go into the laundry and steal a whole pack of paper towel that was sitting on the window sill , she made the excuse she spilt some water and needed to clean it up 😡

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked: The pitches are flat with parking next to the tent. We looked out onto a flat green area where children played, which was lovely. The facilities are excellent ,several toilets and showers, separate for men and women. Only downside is a code to get in, not easy in the dark without my glasses!😂. There's also a small laundry and an indoor room for dishwashing that has 2 microwaves as well. The site is conveniently located to walk into Coldstream and the Hirsel estate, an unexpected bonus to our stay. Worth a visit too, is the Flodden battlefield trail. Staff here are very friendly

Disliked: Nothing

Local attractions

Coldstream (five minutes’ drive) has much to offer in the way of history. This border town changed hands between the English and Scots many times over the centuries and is now home to informative military history displays in Coldstream Museum. It’s also home to the Hirsel Estate, with lakeside dog walks, lovely gardens to wander around, and craft shops where you can pick up some souvenir tartan. A little further afield you’ll come across a series of austere ruined castles, including Twizel (10 minutes), Norham and Etal (both 20 minutes), all once responsible for keeping English bandits out of Scotland. The romantic and remote remains of Dryburgh Abbey (half an hour) are also worth a visit – especially at dusk when they have a haunting beauty. On the English side of the border, drive across the causeway to Holy Island (40 minutes, check tide times) to see art deco Lindisfarne Castle (45 minutes), or head to Bamburgh (40 minutes) to spend the day on its extensive sandy beach. At Alnwick Castle (50 minutes), kids can explore the poison gardens, spot Harry Potter film locations and take broomstick-riding lessons.
