  • Friendly adults-only site with views over the Firth of Forth estuary
  • A five-minute drive from the coast and 20 minutes from St Andrews
  • On-site restaurant with homecooked food; good public transport links
Aiming to get away to the scenic East Neuk of Fife or St Andrews’ home of golf? With views over the Firth of Forth estuary, Monturpie Caravan Park might fit the bill nicely. This family-owned adults-only site is just five minutes’ drive from Scotland's east coast (including the Fife Coastal Path), with the university town of St Andrews 20 minutes’ drive to the north. A friendly atmosphere runs freely here and pitches are well spaced out to provide plenty of peace. For more homely vibes, you’ll have the option of sampling homecooked food and baked goods in the site’s small licensed restaurant (open from Wednesday to Saturday between late morning and mid-afternoon). Other facilities include a heated toilet, shower block and a launderette with disabled facilities. Public transport’s a champ here, as links from the site entrance include express coaches to Edinburgh and Glasgow or local buses to nearby walking havens. Of course, Fife is a mecca for golf fans too and this area doesn’t disappoint, as there are a couple of golf courses five minutes’ drive away. When you feel like just letting your feet take you somewhere instead, the local village is 10 minutes’ walk away. It’s home to a small food shop and a popular hotel with quality meals (yes please, steak night and Sunday roasts). Foodie spots pull through elsewhere too, as there are a number of good-quality restaurants a short drive away, including a Michelin-starred place.

Liked: I liked everything. I arrived tiered and stressed after driving through heavy rain.
Peter couldn't have been more helpful. I thought I'd run out of gas and he was there to help offering to go get me some but it turns out it was just a connection issue.
I even extended my stay.
The walk to the village and the sea at Lower Largo was pleasant especially when I found a small wooded trail to wander through.
Buses from the village run hourly in the direction of St Andrews and Edinburgh along the coastal route or from just outside the campsite for a more direct route.
The showers and toilets were spotless and the views were to die for. Sitting in my van watching the birds swoop and listening to their songs was just what my brain needed to chill.
I would definitely visit again

Disliked: Nothing. Though I wish I'd been there when the restaurant waz open to sample their menu

From the manager: Hi Susan , Many thanks for your lovely review . Having arrived on site quite tired and exhausted I fixed you up with a fully serviced pitch near to the toilet block .Glad that you extended your stay enjoying the local area and managing to relax prior to carrying on your trip north . Hope that you will make a return visit and sample Amandas home baking .
Regards Duncan ( Peter ! )

Liked: Such a simple beautiful setting. Gorgeous sea views with all amenities close to hand. Toilets were spotless could not fault them and owners were down to earth and welcoming. Breakfast and coffee from tea room all freshly made and tasty.
Had a perfect undisturbed sleep both nights. No noisy campers in the morning. All very laid back and idyllic couldn’t ask for more.

Disliked: Nothing apart from not being able to stay longer!!

Disliked: The whole site is tired, run down and has very little to offer apart from the view.

From the manager: Hi Ian , Reviews positive or negative as in this case are very important to our business and a useful gauge as to how we are looking after our visitors and meeting their requirements . I am puzzled however as why we have received such a low score .An Electric grass pitch was booked by you and these are further from our toilet block however if you had requested an alternative fully serviced pitch nearer facilities this would have been made available to you at no extra cost .Since receiving your review I have made the effort to contact you personally to discuss issues raised and the offer of a full refund to which you have declined the offer . We are not a 5star site and have never claimed to be one however we offer visitors lovely spacious pitches offering fantastic views (as you have experienced .) lovely clean toilet facilities ,small wee cafe on site offering lovely homebakes ,short walk to village ,bus service at end of drive and above all a friendly welcome on arrival and assistance at any time to make our visitors stay as enjoyable as possible all at a reasonable cost .

Liked: Quiet location for our one night stay back down South. We have an anxious reactive dog so this was ideal. Duncan was very helpful and also recommended a good fish and chip shop! We didn't have a chance to try the cafe out but it sounds brilliant. Facilities were fine too. We probably won't come back this way so won't be staying again but no reflection on the site.

Disliked: .....only the weather! 😂

From the manager: Hi Teresa , Many thanks for taking the time to review your stay with us . Great that you enjoyed your stay and found everything satisfactory and made very welcome . You have mentioned that you probably wont be back this way however if you do a warm welcome awaits .

Local attractions

So, St Andrews (20 minutes’ drive) has caught your eye, but where will you descend upon first? Golf games don’t get much more historic than the Old Course (20 minutes) and those of you who are fully into your golfing lifestyle might want to peep into the golf museum in the town. Perhaps Craigtoun Country Park (20 minutes) might be your cup of tea, especially for picnics, playgrounds and walking trails. And how about somewhere a little more remote? The walking trails at Lomond Hills Regional Park (35 minutes) or Loch Leven (50 minutes) are a good shout for relaxation. You’ll get to go wildlife spotting at the same time, especially since Loch Leven is a nature reserve (and many of the trails are cycle-friendly so you can cover plenty of ground). Scotland’s Secret Bunker (15 minutes) is certainly pretty underground, in the literal sense too, as this Cold War bunker has been turned into a museum. And for another historic hidey hole, you'll want to head to Kellie Castle (15 minutes) for its arts and crafts garden and exhibitions.
