Are you Waterford bound? Take a look at Crotty’s Lake Camping – a handsome and rural spot indeed, and one that will surely act as an excellent base for exploring Copper Coast beaches, cycling through the countryside and hiking green slopes overlooking lakes.   Secure, private and with dog-friendly pitches backed by woodland, Crotty’s Lake Camping has direct access to Crotty’s Lake (no swimming permitted), a spectacular lake surrounded by tall hills. The owner is on hand to greet you and answer any questions you may have, or give advice on local things to do. Facilities on site are well maintained – the communal area includes a toilet, a ‘wild’ (off-grid) shower, washing-up sink and cooking facilities. Picnic tables are dotted about the place so you can soak up the peace as you eat. The nearest shop is 10 minutes’ drive away in Carrowleigh if you need to source ingredients for your meals, and if you’d rather get someone else to do the cooking for you, there are pubs and restaurants in riverside Carrick-on-Suir (15 minutes), a pretty market town with a castle and theatre.

  • The campground/park does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.
  • Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the campground/park are unlit.
  • Swimming in the lake is not allowed.
  • There are no bins onsite: all rubbish will need to be taken home with you.
  • Please note that the toilet facilities are unisex.
  • Please note that the shower facilities are unisex.
  • If reception is closed on arrival: please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.
  • Fires, barbecues and/or firepits will not be permitted in dry, windy and/or hot weather conditions.

Beautiful, chill campsite with awesome scenery & a wild vibe. Friendly staff are a big win. Pits are private. Crotty's Lake hike & fire pits are highlights. Limited facilities (no showers, few toilets) and some bugs/access issues noted. Great spot for its location & welcoming feel.

Liked Absolutely awesome spot! Such a lovely place, loverly people, sound owner. You get the sense its a place created with true love of the surrounding area, the mountains. Such a peaceful stay, the facilties are well thought out and generous. Will definitely be back.

Liked Amazing campsite! The owners were so lovely and accommodating, giving us all the information we needed and finding us the best place for our tent. They went out of their way to make us feel at home, inviting us for a couple of drinks in the communal area and having a great chat!

Liked Our second stay at crottys and both times have been absolutely the best experience we’ve had, the site itself is vast and so scenic. Perfect for taking walks and hiking up to the lake.

The owner of the the site Bernard has been nothing but a pleasure, really great guy, very knowledgeable with regards to the history of his land, crotty himself and which pitch would suit you in terms of putting up your tents/gear

He’s super friendly and approachable, you’d always see him walking around the site to check on people and how they’re getting on. There’s plenty of facilities at the site as well, a very clean and well maintained/stocked toilet, a covered shelter for socialising and making food, grabbing a hot drink or cold one.

The helpers Bernard has around site are as pleasant and friendly as himself and couldn’t be more ready to help us out.

Overall it’s been one of the nicest experiences we’ve had whilst we’re getting back into camping and enjoying time outside, couldn’t recommend this site enough.

Liked Everthing, a beautiful quiet place plenty of space all other campers came as strangers and left as friends, was met by a very nice owner who welcomed
every one and made them feel at home. The camp was very open, hot water and tea and coffee and goodies, fruit all day long, but for me the best was the walk and the lake itself was breathtaking I spent three days there was not enough but i will definitely return and bring my family

Liked The camp site and facilities were great. All of the staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the three we met went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. The location is great and the view was amazing.

Disliked Lots of bugs, we were warned on arrival but don’t forget your bug spray!

Local attractions

The rural area surrounding Crotty’s Lake Camping certainly has an impressive line-up of attractions. You can get active hiking around Coumshingaun Lough (five minutes’ drive), or have a shot at the Waterford Greenway (15 minutes), a 46-kilometre cycling trail on a former railway line between Waterford and Mallow. You can stroll over the soaring spans of 19th-century Kilmacthomas Viaduct (15 minutes), which once carried trains and now forms part of the greenway. Other splendid sights along the route include Mount Congreve Gardens and Country Estate, with colourful formal gardens and rare trees planted 200 years ago. The Copper Coast UNESCO Global Geopark (25 minutes) is a stretch of coastline dotted with 19th-century copper mines. Several Copper Coast beaches are within half an hour’s drive of the site, including Bunmahon and the sheltered waters of Kilmurrin Cove. Tramore (40 minutes) is a handsome seaside town backing a popular sandy expanse; the geopark stretches from there west to lively Dungarvan (25 minutes) with its shops, pubs and restaurants.
