  • Family-friendly park with a private beach on the Jurassic Coast
  • A 20-minute drive from Lyme Regis and on the South West Coast Path
  • Three swimming pools, a restaurant-bar and a dog-exercise area on site
Access to a private beach on the Jurassic Coast? That’s not something you hear of every day – and yet that’s exactly what you get at Freshwater Beach Holiday Park, an excellent spot for a family-friendly break in Dorset. The site has daytime entertainment and evening shows to keep any boredom at bay – not that you’re likely to feel bored at all, as there’s sandcastle-making and splashing in the sea to look forward to. For nights when you don’t fancy cooking or just want to watch some live sport, head to the Rolling Stones Bar and Restaurant on site, which hosts the aforementioned entertainment. Set along the Jurassic Coast, Freshwater Beach Holiday Park is only a 20-minute drive from Lyme Regis, a key piece in the dramatic coastline. Get stuck into the nearby South West Coast Path and the surrounding Dorset countryside directly from the site too. It should come as no surprise that many guests don’t stray that far, as there are three swimming pools, a bowling alley, games room and watersports directly on site. For adults in need of peace and quiet, there is also a gym, sauna and golf course a short walk down the road. No need to book a dog sitter here, either. There is an enclosed dog-exercise area on site to let them run around, and dogs are welcome in most buildings on site.

Top field powered grass site

Liked: Nice site, plenty of space per pitch
Didn't used facilities to comment on them, free WiFi site wide

Disliked: No water pitch or in fact near the pitch, top field is very dated and unclear what pitch is what, who site seems very unorganized/messy

Liked: Toilet facilities were extremely clean and plentiful.

Disliked: The pitch was extremely muddy. We were told we had to go on that pitch despite there being a lot of spare pitches. We were lied to saying that the pitch we wanted was booked for that night, no one turned up! Also told couldn’t charge our battery using electricity we had paid to use. We paid £68 for the night which was incredibly expensive for what we got. Staff were generally rude and unhelpful and you could tell it was the end of the season. This should have been reflected in the price as no evening entertainment. As we had to be off site by 10, shop doesn’t open until 8.30, this is very late and shop shelves were empty.
Also not sure why you had to operate a band system in the swimming pool when there was about a dozen people in there!
Rubbish WiFi

Liked: Great pitch. Flat with nice grass, no mud (or moles! 😂) stones throw from secluded beach and lovely coastal path along the cliffs. Clean shower block, which was cleaned/checked regularly throughout the day. Good size shower cubicles with constant hot water. Free site WiFi good signal. Quiet pitch, probably because it is low season - it gets very busy during the summer and school holidays! Great for kids (play areas, splash pool outdoor and indoor pools, amusements and on-site entertainment. Great site shop. Good bar serving food throughout the day. Great for dogs...huge dig walking area set off the camping pitch field. Dogs permitted in all areas except shop and shower/toilet blocks.

Disliked: Would have liked the outdoor pool to be open - it closed at the end of August.

Liked: To be honest, difficult to find a fault. Staff, very friendly, good size pitch. WiFi was pretty damm good even on the pitch. Never seen so many showers on a touring park. Water incredibly hot and very clean. Own private beach, outdoor pools and 3 indoor pools (main pool, kids pool and fun pool) play park. Not a bad choice of food, fairly quick as well and of course chance to watch footy. Shop was well stocked and a good variety of anything you might need. Security was very discreet but you kind of knew they had good presence if needed. Entertainment was good both nights we was there for adults and to keep kids entertained. Almost forgot the ten pin bowling. I don't know how it compares peak season however. For the facilities and the price it's a fantastic option in the area.

Disliked: Only little niggle I had, was that they had a private function on the sat so entertainment fri evening was in the bar area. Had a great couple of singers on but they were next to barand not easily viewed. I don't know how often it happens but if they switched the dj area with the entertainment, it would give a much better viewing platform.

Fully-serviced concrete slab site

Liked: Close to coastal areas

Disliked: Paid for premium serviced pitch, very disappointed in size of pitch, tent pegs left in pitch so risk of puncture, food on site mediocre. Premier pitches very close to each other, lots of noise, curtesy curfew 11.30, most sites are usually 10.30. Facilities adequate but nothing to write home about. Would not return to this site

Local attractions

Nearby West Bay (25 minutes' walk), and Weymouth (35 minutes' drive) a little along the coast to the south-east, are well-known watersports havens for surfers, sailors and windsurfers. Afterwards, dry off at one of the towns’ well-known restaurants or carry on exploring elsewhere… The market town of Bridport (five minutes) is an attractive spot for painters, actors and their ilk, as it has a funded arts centre with year-round events, exhibitions and films. The centuries-old street market in town is also pretty colourful; go here on Wednesdays and Saturdays to buy fresh produce, clothes, plants, paintings, books and antiques. If you’re on the Jurassic Coast to fossil hunt, go on to Lyme Regis (20 minutes), home of the annual fossil festival and the award-winning Lyme Regis Museum. Book a fossil walk to get free entry to the fossil finds and exhibitions of the museum afterwards. Dorset has a mammoth amount of other stuff to do for kids too, including the SEA LIFE Centre Weymouth (35 minutes), Axe Valley Wildlife Park (25 minutes) and six daily talks at Wareham’s award-winning Monkey World - Ape Rescue Centre (45 minutes). Abbotsbury Swannery (15 minutes), the only managed colony of nesting mute swans in the world, also has an acclaimed children’s farm with guinea pigs, ponies, undercover play area, tractor rides and lamb racing daily at midday.
