  • Peaceful pop-up site on a working organic farm in South East Cornwall
  • Looe Beach, Bodmin Moor and Adrenalin Quarry 20 minutes’ drive
  • Looe Valley views; organic vegetables for sale and wood to forage
Equidistant from South East Cornwall’s spectacular coastline and equally dramatic Bodmin Moor, Trevalon is a leafy pop-up site set on a working organic farm. Its simple facilities include compost toilets and hot showers in up-cycled wooden huts, washing-up sinks, cold drinking water and recycling areas. If you’re looking for a back-to-basics stay with views over the Looe Valley, this place is calling your name. At 10 minutes’ walk from the sleepy hamlet of Herodsfoot, secluded and peaceful it may be, but there’s easy access from the main A38. If you need any provisions during your stay, Liskeard (15 minutes’ drive) has supermarkets, and as organic vegetables are grown on the farm, seasonal vegetables are usually available for purchase. Eco-friendly touches include solar panels for lighting and packs so you can charge your phone, torch and other devices in situ, but there is no mains electricity for use. There are firepits near the pitches, and some wood is provided to get you started. Additional boxes of wood can be purchased, or you can use the handsaw provided and forage your own wood for free. Please note that nature is all around you, so please be prepared for the occasional little bugs. To keep your food safe, a storage box is available, and ice packs can be exchanged from the freezer in the packing barn.

Local attractions

Turn south and you’re on a popular southern Cornwall beach in around 20 minutes by car. Overlooked by its pretty namesake town, Looe Beach is a swathe of golden sand with safe swimming and watersports like kayaking – it’s also good for rock pooling if you have younger kids. From there, you can join the South West Coast Path for jaunts to Bodigga Cliff (45 minutes on foot from Looe) for sea views, or to the Chapel of Lammana (half an hour) to inspect the clifftop ruins. Turn inland and it’s 20 minutes’ drive to Bodmin Moor, where you can follow sections of the Copper Trail from St Neot (also 15 minutes), which links former mines and villages, scramble up to the precarious Cheesewring granite formation atop Stowe’s Hill (25 minutes), or hike up to the Hurlers Stone Circles (20 minutes), a group of ancient standing stones. The water rides and carousels at Camel Creek Family Adventure Park (50 minutes) makes a great day out with the kids, and for more high-octane adventures, you can whizz down zipwires at Adrenalin Quarry (20 minutes).
