Are you ready for a real off-grid experience? One with spectacular views over hills on the edge of the Shropshire Hills National Landscape, with lots of walking options right from the field… and the chance to see buzzards or red kites flying overhead? If it’s yes to all those questions, then haste ye to Spring Field Dark Skies Camping. On-site numbers are kept low to provide spacious pitches and privacy for all guests and keep the ‘away-from-it-all’ vibe of the place. Facilities are simple: drinking water taps, solar power for the electricity and blocks with proper flushing toilets, showers and hot hand-washing facilities, plus separate grey and black water disposal is available. Guests are also welcome to unwind in a communal sheltered picnic pod with a TV and phone charging facilities. James, the camp host, can arrange canoe hire experiences along the river Severn directly from the site. If you’re keen to hone your barbecuing skills instead, pick up gourmet treats from the well-known butcher in Much Wenlock (15 minutes by car). You're welcome to use your own firepit or barbecue at the central fire-safe area or head to the communal central firepit; only firepits and woodfired barbecues hired from the site are permitted at the pitch for safety reasons. A modern woodfired pizza oven is in the central area of the site too. By the way, the site’s in a dark-skies area, so if you get a clear night, don’t miss the chance to see the stars glittering in the heavens far above you. It's also eco-friendly: a solar installation provides all electrical supplies. Keep your eyes peeled, as the open field management attracts many birds of prey. There are many more eco features, including eco-friendly mowers and recycling facilities. There are several traditional pubs serving good grub within 15 minutes' drive of the site, and Shrewsbury is only 35 minutes away for big nights out.

  • Units heavier than 3500 kg are not allowed.
  • No electric barbecues allowed.
  • Cooking is not permitted in the communal shelter pod.

Great little eco-spot with ace views of the Shropshire Hills. Clean loos and showers, plenty of space, and friendly hosts. Perfect for a quiet getaway or a bushwalk. Some minor gripes about hot water and choppers, but sorted now.

Liked Incredible find! - I have never stayed anywhere more clean and visitor focused. Helpful and friendly. Stunning views and quiet.

Liked The hosts are really lovely and helpful, we loved the fresh eggs! The site is very quiet, peaceful and the views are truly fantastic.
Modern ablutions and all clean.
Some fantastic walks about, and just walking to Langley hall and the nearby church was fascinating. Also nearby Acton burnell definitely worth a visit. We also took a drive over to The Wrecking, a high hill. Saw a large herd of wild deer and a wood pecker whilst on our way up to the top, brilliant

It was unfortunate that guests had to recall us from an evening with our friends to quieten your (enlarged without permission or request) group of friends after 11pm.

Perhaps the rural location really isn't for you.

Liked Beautiful site with panoramic views of the shropshire hills.

Toilet facilities were closer to glamping than camping. It was so refreshing having such a lovely and well-designed shower/toilet block whilst being away from home.

Fresh free range eggs available on site!

Extremely accommodating and friendly campsite hosts with a communal fire pit available to use on site (we didn’t use it as the winds were too strong!)

Incredibly clean, and we appreciated the cars being parked separately from the camping field. It was lovely seeing other little campers able to run around and play in the safety of the field.

The views and overall peacefulness of the site was unmatched. We had the best time!

Disliked Absolutely nothing. This was our best camping trip by far, and will continue to recommend to family and friends.

Use the B4371 Much Wenlock to Church Stretton, and turn off through Hughley because it has the best access to the site and avoids narrow lanes. There is an automatic electric gate at the top of the access driveway which does not operate between 8pm and 8am. An access code is available from reception for these hours. Please be aware that the gate opens towards you upon arrival.

If you’re an active family looking for sporty pursuits, whizz around on quad bikes, try an archery session or improve your aim while shooting clays at The Edge Adventure Activities (15 minutes’ drive). Go pony trekking in the Shropshire Hills (25 minutes), or take to the water in a kayak on the River Severn (half an hour). And of course, there are loads of hiking trails to explore on foot or by bike (an electric bike might make some of those hills easier though). Sneak a bit of history into the holiday mix with a potter around the ruins at Wroxeter Roman City (20 minutes), where you can also see a recreated Roman townhouse, and move forward to the 18th century at National Trust - Attingham Park Estate: Cronkhill (15 minutes) to admire the Italianate villa built by mega-architect John Nash.
