Camping field with pottery studio and artist pods
Our shower block
This is our reception and honesty shop
Camping field in use - early may

  • Family-run Oxfordshire site at a smallholding with art studios
  • Didcot and Wantage 10 minutes' drive; half an hour to Oxford
  • On the edge of the North Wessex Downs, with great walks nearby
We are a family run three acre smallholding hosting an Arts Studio running pottery classes and workshops. We have a level, grass covered paddock that is ideal for camping. It is served by a purpose-built toilet block with two toilets, one shower, a wash-room and a kitchenette. We are 3.5 miles from the Ridgeway - an ancient track that, to the West goes past the White Horse at Uffington and to the East links up with the Thames Path near Goring. The Ickneild Way - like the Ridgeway an ancient long distance track - has recently been resurfaced between East Hendred and Lockinge to provide an excellent cycle path from East Hendred to Wantage. Wantage is an historic market town and the birthplace of King Alfred the Great. It is the nearest town for a good selection of shops, supermarkets and a weekly open air market in the town square. Reachable by car and bicycle (and in some cases by foot) are some excellent places to eat and drink. Steventon is easily achieved by foot or bike, while the Hendreds, Ardington and Letcombe Regis are further afield.

What customers say

This tidy, small park gets kudos for spotless, modern facilities, showers and loos included. The honest shop's a hit with coffee, cakes and local goodies. Sites are level and roomy. Owners are always friendly and keen to help. A bit of road noise crops up sometimes, but it’s mostly not an issue. Top spot for a quiet getaway.

Unpowered grass motorhome site

Liked Level pitches, plenty of room, attractive field. Excellent clean facilities. Lovely little hut with coffee, cakes and gifts on an honesty box system, a wonderful idea. . Very friendly and welcoming owner. Excellent dog walks from the site away from busy roads, nearby village with dog friendly pub.

Disliked Nothing really but there is a little road noise if you are at the road end of the site.

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked It's a wonderful campsite, run by people who understand the needs of campers.
It's not too big, but at the same time nice not be the only ones on site (okay, it was peak season, but still).
Clean and fully functional facilities.

Disliked The one shower for everyone was perhaps a bottleneck, but then again a shower in the evening instead of the morning is a simple solution.
The road next to the campsite can be loud at times, but that's not something Muster Point can do much about.

Unpowered grass motorhome site

Liked Location, very good facilities, friendly people.

Site level

Disliked Site relatively small.

Of busy road, not safe to walk along

Chemical Toilet waste facility kept locked. Had to ask for it to be opened to use !

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: The Chemical Waste Disposal facility is free to campers, but in order to comply with the regulations imposed by the waste removal company, I need to keep an inventory of every disposal and, critically, the type of chemical used in the cassette. I believe this is a move to restrict the used of the nasty blue chemical in favour of the more environmentally friendly green.

Great facilities and honesty shop.

Unpowered grass motorhome site

Liked Facilities were new and clean.
The honesty shop was great.
Pitches were flat and big.
Small site meaning close to toilets.
Always hot water.
Close by car to local towns.
Price was reasonable.

Disliked Only 2 toilets and 1 shower - They were always clean though, despite the number of people you didn't need to wait long to use them.
The road could be heard through the night, so take ear plugs.
Not really in walking distance to shops or pubs.
It was quite a small site so when it was full we felt very close to everyone.
Unique to our stay: Teenagers were running around at 2230 with torches playing tag, that was quite annoying and no body stopped them.

From the manager: Sorry to hear about your issues.

At 10:15 I did ask the noisy children to stop, and reminded their parents that we have a quiet time policy after 10:00 p.m. At 10:30 all seemed quiet. My Wife returned by car at 10:45 and reported that all was quiet.

I understand that walking distance depends on individual capabilities, but we often direct groups, including kids, up the farm tracks towards Steventon. In about 30 minutes by foot you can reach a Coop local minimarket, four Pubs and an excellent farm shop (their ice cream is very popular).

Unpowered grass tent or trailer tent site

Liked Relaxed atmosphere. Lovely facilities. Thoughtful touches to make life easier and more convenient.

Disliked It’s a shame for the owners the walking routes from the site southwards are limited as the road is an awkward one to walk along. If a permissive route could be established along the edge of the field opposite its open up far better route options.
