  • Quiet adults-only glamping site in leafy Leicestershire
  • In Waltham on the Wolds village, 10 minutes' drive from Melton Mowbray
  • Smart shepherd's hut with private hot tub and views of a fishing lake
Hide yourself away in rural Leicestershire at an adults-only shepherd's hut on the edge of the peaceful village of Waltham on the Wolds. Once you've had time to inspect the private wood-fired hot tub, cosy interiors and splendid lakeside setting, you'd be hard-pressed to give this glamping site anything less than top marks for luxury and peace. The huts at Fair Farm Hideaway are all spaced out at a good distance from each other and are fully self-contained. All are surrounded by natural grassland and have far-reaching views over the site's lake and the Leicestershire countryside beyond. You won't find it tricky to find excuses to spend as much time as possible outside soaking it all up – the hut comes with a barbecue and a private hot tub, with plenty of room for two, and is well-stocked with fuel to keep you toasty. Firepit hire is available too. Inside, an ensuite bathroom, a proper double bed, luxurious linen and towels, a well-equipped kitchenette and extras like a coffee machine and a smart TV (n/a Masham and Border Leicester) are also on hand to help make your stay as comfortable as possible. And once you've spent some time trying out all the gadgets in your fancy pad, there are also nature paths and angling opportunities to take advantage of. The site is located directly off the A607 on the outskirts of the village. The pub and gorgeous parish church are both around a 10-minute walk away.

Set in the scenic Vale of Belvoir, Waltham on the Wolds is a short drive from attractions as varied as castles, gliding, shooting and birdwatching. For something in keeping with the rural surrounds on site, you might also like to seek out walking trails around the Grantham Canal (10 minutes' drive) or leisurely lakeside strolls at Rutland Water (25 minutes), where there's ample scope for spotting local birdlife. For days out based on a historical theme, make for Melton Mowbray (10 minutes), where the town’s heritage trail, museum and grade-I listed church are all worth admiring. On a somewhat grander scale, brilliant Belvoir Castle (10 minutes) is also a short drive away, where stately home curios and gorgeous garden views should keep visitors entertained for many an hour. Finally, to amp up the adrenaline a notch, seek out a course of archery lessons at New Leaf Triangle outdoor centre (10 minutes), soar through the skies at Buckminster Gliding Club (15 minutes) or take the ultimate leap of faith at Skydive Langar (15 minutes).

Swaledale shepherd's hut (hot tub, no pets)

Liked We had a great couple of nights, one day it was sunny the other we experienced some heavy showers. However, each day was equally special.
Very relaxing and we'll definitely consider staying again.

Teeswater shepherd's hut (hot tub, no pets)

Liked Amazing huts in a very peaceful location. The local pub was also an absolute hit. Old fashioned, friendly staff and incredible food. Can’t wait to come back.
Hut was super cosy, we didn’t even need to use the log burner.

Disliked The BBQ had seen better days and probably not cleaned effectively by previous guests but we used a hot plate on it, or foil would work. We had a number to call for assistance and I’m sure this would’ve been provided as owners were very accommodating but we had a solution to didn’t bother them with this

Jacob shepherd's hut (hot tub)

Liked The self-check in was different but was very nice to be able to just go get settled right in. When we arrived the hot tub was all ready to go and the heating was on in our hut. The indoor fire made the hut so cosy and romantic, also kept the hut very toasty! Lovely views and very peaceful, the snow was amazing! We came from Devon so don't see it alot! My partner loved the fishing despite it being cold. Would love to come again, perfect time away!
