On the weekend you stayed with us, there were 380 campers on site. Our mobile phone number is readily available throughout the site, on pitch-up and we visited your pitch at 1800hrs and 2000hrs every night - on no occasion did you raise any concerns or complaints.
You booked a grass tent or motorhome pitch 2 weeks prior to arrival. At the time, the weather forecast was changeable with a 90%+ chance of rain. The weather forecast for Storm Lillian was clear 7 days prior.
Many campsites closed under the conditions of Force Majeure (uncontrollable events that are not the fault of any party) and therefore offered no refund. We had a choice - cancel everyone's bank holidays or work incredibly hard in very unseasonal conditions - which we did.
In doing so, we gave the choice of whether to take on the weather conditions to our campers/customers. You took the decision to deploy to the Yorkshire Dales in a storm to camp on a grass pitch....and you are now complaining about mud.... For info....everyone who asked if we could help them with hard standing (for whatever reason) was accommodated on hard standing by our team.
From 1300hrs on Friday we deployed a member of staff (Steve) to the entrance to direct early traffic into the driest field. On the odd occasion, Steve was called away to help other campers who were battling the wind and rain.....so it's entirely possible that he missed you and you were required to use some initiative or patience......in the circumstances I think that was entirely reasonable.
No sinks - untrue - read the other reviews that compliment the facilities. The reason we don't have sinks in the main toilets is because people can take 20 minutes to do their make-up and the queue of people waiting for the toilet gets unreasonably long and causes arguments.
On the weekend you stayed, we also had 20 portaloos on site - you could have used any of those.
I note that you didn't comment on us opening the barn and installing patio heaters for campers who were caught in the weather.
I note that you didn't mention about us making sheltered parking available for motorbikes.
I note that you didn't mention the free assistance to pull 8 campers that got stuck in the mud out with the tractor.
I note no mention of our willingness to dispose of the tents and equipment that git damaged in the storm - at no cost.
Our team have worked incredibly hard all weekend in challenging conditions. We have just finished at 1910hrs on Bank Holiday Monday. We were delighted to see so many campers draw down on their resilience and have a great holiday because it validated our decision to stay open while others closed.
