Other local food and drink attractions include the several sausage and sauerkraut joints in downtown Fredericksburg (20 minutes), the legacy of the Texas Germans that settled here in the mid-19th century. You'll also have numerous options for hikes and drives through spectacular scenery: top of the list are Enchanted Rock (40 minutes), a great geology spot with eight miles of trails, and Pedernales Falls State Park (an hour), a set of rivers and cascades that run over gorgeous limestone terrain. For an award-winning golf and spa resort, meanwhile, head for the lakeside town of Horseshoe Bay (an hour).
