If you’re heading for a holiday in the Mecklenburg Lake District, it’s a fair bet that you’d favour a fab lakeside location, ja? Step forward Campingplatz am Weißen See, a peaceful park on the banks of the Weißen See and an easy 15-minute amble from the shops, restaurants and other town amenities of Wesenberg. This part of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is well supplied with lovely lakes, making it a tiptop area for those who’d like to get out into the fresh air for walks, bike rides or canoe trips. Several of the lakes are linked together, so if you launch in the right spot you can spend a whole day pottering from lake to lake without getting off the water. That’s not the case here though: the Weißen See is self-contained and no motorboats are allowed, so you can practise your paddling in peace and quiet, take a leisurely swim from the jetty without fear of high-speed collisions… or just stretch out for a bit of sunbathing on the little sandy beach. Small sorts seeking something more energetic? There’s a playground for their clambering endeavours and a football pitch where they can come together for a kickabout. Fuel whatever activity you choose with meals at the site’s restaurant or by picking up supplies at the shop. If you can hang on until dusk starts to fall, there’s often a campfire cookout to be had during the summer months.

喜欢: Mir hat der Urlaub sehr gefallen. Wir hatten eine schöne Lage, der See war nicht weit weg und die Aussicht von unserem Platz direkt überm Wasser hat alles nochmal getoppt. Die Mitarbeiter waren sehr nett und sympathisch, gibt also eigentlich nichts zu meckern :)

喜欢: Schöner naturbelassener Platz,teilweise aber sehr uneben (viel Ausgleich notwendig) durch viele Bäume eingeschränkter Sat-Empfang. Super nettes Team in der Rezeption. Sanitär ist renoviert und immer sauber. Zugang zum See über eine Treppe. Guter Ausgangspunkt zum Radfahren und Wandern auch Wasser und Strand sehr schön. Achtung :Zufahrt direkt hinter Bahnübergang und sehr steil.

喜欢: The member of staff behind the counter was super friendly and spoke excellent English which really helped. There was also a small shop which stocked a good variety of items. There were some pitches that overlooked parts of the lake so that was nice, and the site as a whole was really peaceful. Very clean bathrooms and washing up areas too.

不喜欢: This site is occupied by a lot of sitting caravans who have taken all the best spots and dominated the majority of the space unfortunately, some of them were big eyesores too. As mentioned in another review, the dogs were not allowed on the lake and beach which meant I could not swim as I wasn’t comfortable leaving my dog on his own all the way at the top of the hill where I couldn’t see him- big shame! In addition, there is NO wifi so the listing on pitchup is wrong! Finally, I had a shower in the evening and following morning and both times were freezing cold- not sure if I’m meant to have paid for heat (?!) or if the heating wasn’t working.

喜欢: Wir waren insgesamt sehr zufrieden, sehr ruhiger Platz, sehr saubere Sanitäreinrichtungen, der Weisse See super mit klarem Wasser. Rezeption recht freundlich, nur die Öffnungszeiten waren etwas knapp.

不喜欢: W-lan war nicht wie beworben verfügbar, weil laut der Aussage des Campingplatzes, das w-lan zu schlecht ist. Die beworbenen Mietbsten Fahrräder beinhalteten 4 Fahrräder für erwachsene. Kein einziges für Kinder, keinen Kinderanhänger oder Kindersitz.

If the one thing missing from this lakeside retreat is a place to fish, wander over to Wesenberg (15 minutes’ walk) where there are suitable places to wield a fishing rod; you can also hire boats here or take a stroll around the castle. If that’s given you a taste for castles, you may also like to mosey around Mirow Castle (10 minutes’ drive) or head to Neustrelitz (20 minutes), for sculpture-filled palace gardens and a small zoo. For a bigger collection of creatures, take the 40-minute drive to Kunsterspring zoo, famed for its pack of wolves. The Rechlin aviation museum is a 20-minute drive away if your interests lie more in engineering than animals. If spotting species in the wild is more your thing, make for the Müritz National Park (10 minutes), where there’s some great birdwatching along with many kilometres of trail to hike or bike along. Overdone the efforts a tad? Swing back to base via the spa and swimming pool at Muritztherme (half an hour) to soothe muscles in the waters.
