Craving watersports, treetop obstacle courses and cycle-easy forest paths? With Cranborne Chase on one side and New Forest on the other, Leat Farm is all about a relaxing retreat in the outdoors. That’s certainly what you get, as the dog-friendly farm site is part of a working smallholding and timber yard on the river Allen with a clear chalk stream, plenty of plant life and a working Stenner sawmill over 100 years old. You'll blend properly into farm life here, thanks to the site’s two horses (Bobbie and Cobby), four goats and a small band of turkeys nearby. At the same time, won't be too far away from the buzz, whether that's the beach or city – within driving distance, there’s Salisbury (half an hour’s drive), Southampton (50 minutes), Bournemouth (half an hour) Christchurch (25 minutes) and Poole (45 minutes). As for the local town, well, from Fordingbridge (five minutes), there’s a fair few adventures to be had and that’s not counting a trip down taste lane (restaurants, shops and pubs are in plentiful supply). There are riding stables, a park, woodland archery and a little further out, the New Forest Water Park (10 minutes) for a good go at wakeboarding, paddleboarding and other watersports. When you’re looking for something a little closer by, the site is behind Alderholt Mill, a working watermill with tearooms (a breakfast spot, maybe?). To the north of the site, there’s also a trout fishery five minutes' drive away.

喜欢: Loved the lady that ran the campsite she was warm and friendly. It was amazing!

不喜欢: We asked about brining a gazebo, and I possibly didn’t explain that it was a small one to put between tents. I got told no, however speaking to the lady who ran the campsite she told me that it wasn’t a problem. It would have certainly been helpful to bring as the first night it rained.

喜欢: Very friendly owners who were very welcoming. Kids loved Bob the horse in the field who always came over to greet them and the stream at the bottom of the site.

不喜欢: Shower basic and difficult to control temperature to stop it getting scalding hot and one of the two showers not working

喜欢: Toilet and shower facilities were always kept clean and stocked essentials. Supplied with fire pits where you could have a bbq and fire each nice at no more than £10. Spacious and plenty of things to do on the site for example, see the horses and other live stock. Lastly the host were great, took care of the groups on site and always took time out of her late afternoon/ evening to chat with people.

不喜欢: Maybe add another shower as there was only one.

喜欢: It was the most beautiful setting and even the rain couldn’t spoil the weekend! Leat Farm is the perfect spot for families who want to explore the New Forest or visit the coast. Donna is so welcoming and makes the point of speaking to everyone, suggesting places to visit, getting to know the kids and nothing is too much trouble. Everyone on the camp site is chatty and friendly, and you end up spending the evening chatting next to the fire, watching the sun set as the kids all play together. I cannot wait to come again it really is a gem xx

喜欢: The owners were super friendly, the fire pit/bbqs for hire were great. There were games for the kids to play with and the amazing horse Bob was a winner with all the kids, who would regularly go and check on him and the donkeys. We loved the little stream at the bottom of the field and fordingbridge not too far for a splash in the river next to a huge playpark.

不喜欢: No lights in the toilets at night, but fine if you take a torch (head torch easiest if wrangling kids!)

Well, there’s a lot to keep the little ones entertained, whether it’s the battle boats and spinning teacups at Adventure Wonderland (25 minutes' drive), the coasters at Paultons Park Home of Peppa Pig World (35 minutes) or falconry shows and snakes at Liberty's Owl, Raptor & Reptile Centre (20 minutes). Those of you looking to throw some outdoor activities into the mix will also be set, whether that's with sailing at the New Forest and District Sailability (15 minutes), Go Ape in Moors Valley Country Park & Forest (20 minutes) or full-on wildlife watching on Brownsea Island (an hour and 25 minutes). History’s not so far away around here either. First of all, there's the 14th-century Old Wardour Castle (45 minutes) or heavy horses and vintage trucks at Dorset Heavy Horse Farm Park (10 minutes), then the elegance of the Elizabethan manor at Breamore House (15 minutes) or the National Trust country mansion at Kingston Lacy (half an hour). After a museum dive too? There’s the National Motor Museum (45 minutes), The Tank Museum (55 minutes) and Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum (40 minutes) for a look at the history of the vehicles.
