With the landscapes of the North York Moors National Park all around and the coastline only about 10 minutes’ drive away, this is a nifty location for a North Yorkshire outdoor break. Clover Hill Farm is a family-run site in the hamlet of Scaling, up at the northern end of the national park about 20 minutes’ drive from Whitby. That location means there are plenty of options around for activities and days out, with hiking/cycle trails galore nearby, plus outings to beaches and seaside towns. And you won’t have to travel far to get your scenery/activity fix, as a 15-minute walk gets you to the waterfall at Roxby Mill. Alternatively, a five-minute stroll takes you to Scaling Reservoir for fishing, walks and watersports (or a game of crazy golf and a good meal at the waterside pub). Tailoring your break to your style is easy here – you can keep things simple or boost your break with various extras like barbecue hire, prosecco buckets and birthday banners. On arrival you can also sort things like local barbecue meat packs and outdoor games hire (giant Jenga, supersized Twister, that sort of thing…) Guest facilities centre around a shepherd’s hut washroom (with hot showers and flushing toilets) and a well-equipped kitchen hut with a mini oven, double hob, microwave, fridges and various pots, pans and utensils. Outside, there’s a large mowed area for games or for groups to gather. The folk that own this site are passionate about the environment, so they’ve made a concerted effort to plant new trees and hedging to create wildlife corridors and enhance the site’s biodiversity. Owl and bat boxes on site mean you may well see and/or hear these species at some point during your stay.

喜欢: Smaller campsite Clean Fire pits Plenty of open space

不喜欢: Couldn’t park car next to pitch even to unpack. Only two toilets and two showers for the whole campsite.

喜欢: Fantastic weekend at Clover Hill Farm. The site is beautiful and well maintained. Pitches are really well spaced, facilities include a shower / toilet block (cubicles are unisex) and a kitchen area with washing up and some cooking facilities. The owners are very friendly and welcoming. We cannot wait to visit again.

喜欢: We stayed at Clover Hill, May Bank holiday this year with our 2 grandchildren, 9 and 14. A lovely quiet site A stones throw from Whitby. On site facilities include a bathroom comprising of 2 toilets with sinks and 2 showers. These are modern A kept extremely clean. The kitchen / Wash area was a massive surprise. 2 sinks, wash up provisions and to top that, saucepans etc and the use of a microwave and mini oven Ive never seen this before on a campsite, so was really impressed. Pitches were a good size and level Whole site kept very clean. Sarah, the owner was a lovely lady and very accommodating. Would camp here again, but during the Summer when HOPEFULLY we will have better weather.

不喜欢: Only down for me is that we can't have the car near the tent and understandably so as the field gets boggy with the rain. 2 trollys are available to ferry all your camping gear back n forth fr tent to car. However, both hubby and I have mobity issues, so this was hard a d on top of yhat, as everyone on site leaves around the same time, you have to wait and be quick to get your turn for the trolly.

不喜欢: Need more toilets Having to take belongings to the bottom of the field where our pitch was with a cart on a muddy field no cars aloud to unload and unpack maybe create a boarded walk way

喜欢: Fantastic site. Really big pitches, well spread out. Friendly owners that allow you to get on with your stay. Shower facilities are excellent and a great kitchen area too. Despite the weather being awful we still had a great 4 days.

不喜欢: It's not a dislike but in the future an ev charging port would be a fantastic addition.

喜欢: Good size pitch, friendly and very helpful owners and the nicest, cleanest showers / toilets and best equipped kitchen we’ve ever seen on a campsite. Location excellent for exploring the North Yorkshire Moors and coastline.

喜欢: Lovely little site. The toilet\loo block was super cute. You get your own bath mats. Mini kitchen well stock to cook and use. Comms was brilliant. Got a text on our way up. Close to lovely pub, dam and mini golf. Lovely large pitches too! Easily get two large tents on them.

不喜欢: Probably would need more toilets and showers if site was fully booked. We take a lot stuff camping so not being able to park on the pitch was hard work for us but we got the idea behind it - this is the only reason we wouldn't go back.

喜欢: A beautiful, small site with private, well spaced pitches. A kitchen hut provides sinks for washing up plus a couple of fridges, microwave, hot plates, kettle and more. A lovely shower/toilet hut even provides shower mats for families to use for the duration of their stay. No cars allowed on site but trolleys are provided to get set up. Location is perfect for the coast or moors. Scaling dam is at the end of the lane for a stroll in the evening. It looks about a mile all the way around but it's actually 3 miles so don't go too late!

不喜欢: Nothing to dislike except we'd have liked to come out of season. Plus there wasn't anywhere that told what the wifi password was, which was advertised.

There’s a whole lot of choice around here when it comes to walks and bike rides – and as the farm is on a public right of way, you can get started straight from the gate. Some of the top spots nearby include Blakey Ridge (20 minutes’ drive), Roseberry Topping (25 minutes) and the Hole of Horcum (half an hour). Not up for the exercise? Ride the North Yorkshire Moors Railway from Goathland (25 minutes). The national park stretches all the way to the coast, taking in seaside towns like Runswick Bay (10 minutes), Staithes (15 minutes) and Robin Hood’s Bay (half an hour). Saltburn-by-the-Sea (20 minutes) is another popular spot, with a lovely beach, a pier and a funicular railway to ride. The highlight for many, though, is a trip to Whitby (20 minutes), where you can stroll through the Old Town, climb the famed 199 Steps and visit the abbey, as well as spending time on the beach.
