Cycling in the Czech Republic? Have a cycling stopover at Kemp Děčín if so, as it's nicely placed along the country's Elbe Cycle Route for bike-based breaks. Research on where to go next will be sorted with the free site wifi, while travelling tales can be traded in the communal yurt, available for guests to meet up at and cook and chill in. (And if you're taking your chilling highly seriously, breakfast is served in the yurt for those who don't want to cook.) Two playgrounds are on site so the kids can meet up and swap tall tales too. Amenities include a toilet and shower block with free hot water, baby-changing facilities, a lockable bike hut and a cabin suitable for guests with reduced mobility. An info point is in reception and the staff can sort you out if you want to book any local tours or activities. Food is also served at the café-bar, which dishes up cold beer, grilled paninis and tasty locally-roasted coffee.

Lokala sevärdheter

The Děčín area is in Bohemian Switzerland, on the Czech side of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains – yep, that's as handsome and activity-filled as it sounds. There's plenty to do in the area around the site: an aquapark is a mere three-minute walk away, a via ferrata park ten minutes away and a zoo within 15 minutes. Děčín is the biggest town in the Děčín District, and probably its most popular tourist place is Děčín Castle, on a hill overlooking the Labe river and once the home of Bohemian kings. It, the town rose gardens and the recently placed south gardens are all 10 minutes' walk from Kemp Děčín. The site is also a nifty base for trips and tours around the Bohemian Switzerland National Park with its monumental Pravčická brána, the biggest natural sandstone arch in Europe, and to the spa town of Bad Schandau (24km), over the border to Germany and the city of Dresden (65km) or all the way to Meissen (90km). In the opposite direction about 25 kilometres away is the city of Ústí nad Labem, a popular – and pretty – tourist place. But you might just be here for the cycling. The splendid Elbe Cycle Route runs for 980 kilometres leading cyclists through Dresden, Cuxhaven and the North Sea coast from its starting pint in Prague: see how far along it your biking legs will take you.
