It can be exhausting travelling with kids, but it doesn’t have to be… At Dalgård Camping, a quiet family-run and family-friendly site 10 minutes’ drive from the town of Allingåbro in the Nordjurs region of Central Denmark, there’s plenty on-site and nearby to keep kids busy, active and happy. Dalgård is in Djursland, a wild region of Denmark with 250 kilometres of coastline and tons of kid-friendly beaches for swimming, games and sandcastles, and there are loads of tourist traps nearby that the kids will be drawn to. On-site, there’s a huge outdoor playground where young kids can have a go on the trampoline, swings and seesaws and older kids can burn their energy away on the bouncy cushion, nest swing and Tarzan trail, then you can all get together later on for a game of miniature golf. During the high season, you and the kids can try baking bread on an open fire, painting stones or playing different ball games. There’s plenty nearby that grownups can enjoy too, so give yourself a couple of days that aren’t all about the kids. Head to Aarhus for shopping and art, to Mols Bjerge National Park for exploration, or take an afternoon off and go golfing or fishing – there’s even a fish-cleaning table you can use on site. Recover your energy by grilling your catch up on the barbecue (you can nab extra supplies in the supermarket five minutes down the road) or by grabbing a table at one of the many restaurants within 15 minutes of Dalgård.

Explore the region with a visit to Mols Bjerge National Park, about half an hour from Camping Dalgård, where you can follow cycle and walking routes, meet the wildlife, call to old manors and Bronze Age sites, and visit stunning towns and villages like Ebeltoft. An afternoon at Ebeltoft (45 minutes from Dalgård) is an absolute must: the stunning old port town is full of twisty cobbled streets and centuries-old half-timber houses, but there’s more to do here than just gaze in wonderment. Head to the Old Town Hall and dungeon, climb aboard the Jutland frigate (the longest wooden warship in the world) or take in the Ebeltoft Glass Museum... There’s plenty within easy reach to keep kids (and grownups) entertained too. Start with the rollercoasters and waterslides of Djurs Sommerland theme park and waterpark, then make your way to Kattegat Centre aquarium, the Scandinavian Zoo and Randers Rainforest tropical zoo, all within 30 minutes of Dalgård.
