It's a total breeze to find a favoured spot from the well-placed site of Vedersø Klit Camping on the edge of Denmark: the North Sea sands and windy waves of Ringkoebing-Skjern beach are a simple 600 metres away for basking, surfing and windsurfing. And how might you deposit yourself on beach or in waves? Hire a bike on site to pedal the couple of minutes' to the shoreline. Another tiptop sandy spot is a few kilometres from here too, as the site is set between the village of Vedersø and the famed Husby dune plantation, in a spectacular setting of marked biking and hiking paths, sand, and beech, oak and pine woodland. A horse riding centre is a kilometre's trot away. If you baulk at sea swimming, take yourself to the big outdoor pool complex on site instead, where there's a main pool for grownups, a smaller pool for little squirts, and a waterslide for the waterly adventurous. Or get steamy for a spell with a session at the sauna and steam room to soothe any stresses away: the kids, for example, may be hankering too noisily about day trips to the Flamingo Nature Park and the Baboon City amusement park, 25 and 50 kilometres away Other leisure facilities include playgrounds, a tennis court, multisports court and a miniature golf course. Food options are easily found too: you can have a meal at the grill bar either indoors or on the terrace, or stock up at the supermarket for a pitchside picnic or to sizzle up supper at the barbecue area or guest kitchen. Organised entertainment such as live music and themed meals runs in summer.

Created in the mid-19th century to stop sand drifts, the Husby dune plantation has been a popular spot ever since. Stop off at the Ulfborg tourist centre for info on the plantation and its marked walking trails, including the particularly scenic one along the Raketvejen path to Spidsbjerg Strand beach. Kids will have a hoot bouncing around the games centre of Vesterhavets Fodboldgolf 10 kilometres away, where football golf, a shooting simulator, inflatable sumo and other games await. The settings of Flamingo Nature Park are half an hour's drive away, and the chattering inhabitants of Baboon City amusement park can be excitedly greeted within an hour. Small – and full-sized – adventurers can travel along to Hvide Sande (25 minutes) for sailing trips on the schooner Maja, or to stick around the town and its waters for the Holmsland Dunes as well as biking, fishing, hiking and surfing. Kystcentret Thyborøn, the huge coastal playground and exhibition centre, is 50 minutes' drive from the site.
