You might be relieved this site has 'cross' in its name, as it's near the toothy town of Whitby, famed of course these days for its Goth weekends and those days for being where one Count Dracula leapt ashore to UK soil… But of course Ladycross Plantation Caravan Park has a fair bit more going on for it than that… in fact you could say that the site has a lot of bite…? It's a nifty base from which to flit to the best of North Yorkshire, for one, as it's only 400 yards off the A171 from Teeside to Whitby, and has easy access to the North York Moors National Park and Heartbeat country around Goathlands. And it's set on 95 acres of good-looking woodland, with a two-mile-long nature trail meandering through its trees and past a pond. There's also easy access for caravans and tourers. The on-site pantry shop in the reception area stocks essentials and stacks of leaflets on what to do in the surrounding area (after Whitby, natch). The park also has a book exchange service. Ladycross is run by a family team who have been improving and upgrading the park since taking it over in 2010. Among the features added are two modern and well-maintained toilet and shower blocks with private washrooms and underfloor heating, a waste and water point, and secluded areas for various pitches.

  • The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, Alsatians, American bulldog, English bull terriers, Dobermans, Huskies, Mastiff, Akita or Tosa. There is no playground for children, but there is plenty of woodland. Please be aware the Woodsmith project by Anglo American plc is taking place in the area. It has not caused disruption but it's ongoing. During quiet periods only one toilet block may be in use, which will also be closed for a short period in the morning and evening for cleaning.

Gostou: The site was gorgeous, very clean and well run! We were given clear information on arrival. Very much enjoyed our stay!

Não gostou: Why do some people think rules apply to everyone but them? You were given an information sheet with rules when having dogs with you (we have a dog with us) dogs MUST be on a lead at all times (quite rightly in my opinion) however a caravan opposite us had 3 small dogs that were off the leads when sat outside and then barked at people passing ……. This rule is great but does need to be inforced!

Gostou: First visit to this site and was very impressed. Pitches are large we had fully serviced and were very happy. Dog field is fantastic our crazy cocker spaniel had a whale of a time running free. Facilities were immaculate and staff very welcoming. Will be back

Gostou: Great staff, lovely tidy sight with great pitches. So peaceful and quiet, we were very lucky with the weather. Got the bus into whitby, also walked Grosmont to Goathland, so many more places to explore and not enough time so we will be back

Do gerente: Thank you for your review and your kind words will be passed to our wardens etc Unfortunately when we only have a handful of visitors on site we do close one of the toilet blocks, this selfishly saves us some pennies but it also helps our environment, in not putting the heating on for the water this helps save the planet of its gas and energy supplies and stops a greater amount of pollution being produced. We do try and advise customers on arrival to be mindful of the toilet cleaning times when the block will be shut so my apologies if we neglected to do it. Lastly i notice 6/10 has been given for cleanliness, we would recommend that customers tell us asap of any concerns about our cleanliness and we can sort the issues immediately. Again thank you for your review as all information received from customers allows other readers to make choices on their holiday destinations. Lisa

Gostou: We loved everything about this site , the facilities were so clean lovely staff, lovely underfloor heating in showers , lots to do not too far from site, lovely walks aswel, we will definitely be back and recommend to others to visit.

From Whitby Take the A171 towards Middlesborough. Please note: the A169 Whitby to Pickering northbound has steep narrow country lanes when approaching Sleights. If you are taking this road, continue on the A169 up to the roundabout. Turn left onto the A171. Danger! Do not turn left off the A169 signposted Grosmont, Egton. It is dangerously steep with narrow country lanes that drop to sea level. Follow the directions as above.

Among the many fab things to see and do are Whitby Abbey (Dracula!), the castle, the oldness of its port town, the Captain Cook Memorial Museum and fish and chips at the Magpie.
