Pop the corks, for there's a lot to celebrate at , in the Haute-Marne department of France's Champagne province. Its setting is sublime, on the shores of Lac du Der and in a national forest, with over 70km of shoreline to investigate and close to a load of watersports including plenty of places for fishing. (And it's near the village of Eclaron for one to purchase one's pastries et croissants in le morning.) A 36-kilometre cycling route is right outside the site (bike hire is available from the team, of course) and you are after all in the Champagne province, with many a chance for popping corks and pouring… When you arrive back from a day exploring the region (and exploring its bubbly wine), more action is on offer in the evenings via the team's organised entertainment like activities and shows including karaoke, live music and stuff just for kids. The site has up to date facilities including a sports court, ping pong tables, a pétanque court, and modern loos and showers also suitable for guests with reduced mobility.

Lokale bezienswaardigheden

Lac de Der covers over 5000 hectares and its shoreline stretches over 70 kilometres, so you'll find lots of opps for shoreside hiking, mountain biking and cycling, along with two marinas, nautical centres and six – oui, six – supervised beaches for sunbathing, sailing, windsurfing and fishing. The area is also well famed for birdwatching with over 270 species including ducks, cranes and birds of prey calling it home. But of course you're in the Champagne province. And might be feeling bubbly. Delve into the local cellars to sample the local wet wares, not forgetting to check out the regional charcuterie and the many creamy Haute-Marne cheeses… The team also recommends a cycle around the route of the Der region's churches, noted for their wooden sides, and the 45-minute trip to pretty popular Nigloland, the theme park with 40 attractions for all ages. Paragliding courses and sessions are also available nearby.
